Congratulations, YMS Band!
Congratulations to the YMS 7th and 8th grade bands who represented York in the Great East Festival earlier this month. Both bands performed exceptionally well and were awarded a gold medal. This award is a direct result of student hard work and practice over the last several months under the guidance of their director, Jimi Neel, and conducted at the festival by Dan Sovetsky. Thank you to the students for representing our school and to the families for supporting our music program.
Band Instrument Collection
If your child is a member of the YMS Band please review the instructions for instrument returns: YMS Instrument Collection.
Sixth Grade Roller Coasters!
Sixth grade Jaguars are nearing the end of their quarter long science project of building paper roller coasters. Students were tasked to keep a marble in motion as long as possible, while incorporating their lessons on physics along the way. Jaguars have engineered some very creative and festive projects this year, and they are looking forward to showcasing their final creations next week. Keep an eye out for these projects as some make their journey home next week!
YMS Supports Local Food Pantry
Over the last few months students in the York Middle School 7th and 8th grade Student Council has been working to support the York Community Service Associations Food Pantry.
The 7th and 8th grade Student Council hosted multiple events throughout the school year for the students at YMS (such as a Dodgeball and Volleyball tournaments after school and a few Dances/Socials at night). They then donated the funds from these events to the York Food Pantry.
Later in the year, the 7th and 8th grade Student Council host a food drive where students and staff at YMS are asked to donate goods. At the conclusion of the food drive, the students and staff brought in over 350 items! This was very appreciated!!
Shortly after the YMS food drive, thirteen of the 7th and 8th grade student council members got to spend some time volunteering at the YCSA Food Pantry. The students had to help unpack, process, and organize all of the goods. While they were there they were given some insight as to how the food pantry operates and got the opportunity to assist in doing some helpful jobs around the building.
A special THANK YOU goes out to Ledgemere Transportation for donating a driver and bus to shuffle the students back to school after they volunteered.
Wicked Good Wildcats!
The YMS staff is continuing to recognize the good things students do at YMS! Staff use the YMS HOWLS of Respect, Responsibility, and Perseverance along with the School Theme of "Challenge Accepted" to guide them in what they are looking for in order to nominate a student. Students who are recognized are listed in weekly newsletters, on the TV in the cafeteria of YMS, during our morning announcements, and will earn entry to a prize announced at our quarterly assembly. They also receive a paper certificate from the adult who nominated them telling them why they were recognized. Please help us thank these students for bringing positivity to YMS!
Join us in recognizing the students who were named Wicked Good Wildcats!

2026-2027 YMS Athletics
Last week, a fall sports interest survey was sent via email to the students who will be in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade in the fall. If your student is interested in one of these programs, have them check their email and sign up via the Google form in their email. The student-athlete must sign up through their school email. Signing up does not mean you have to do the school program; it only allows us to know how many students are interested in each program or team.
Students entering 7th and 8th grade in the fall can sign up for one of these programs:
Soccer
Field Hockey
Cross country
Students entering 6th grade in the fall can participate in:
Cross Country
If we have low numbers in field hockey and soccer, we will consider allowing students in 6th grade to participate, but that decision will not be made until after the first practice, which is on September 8th.
We are also in the process of trying to run a pickleball club after school in the gym. If we have the student interest and if we can find an adult to supervise it, pickleball would be after school from 2 to 3 PM on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Pickleball is a non-travel group and would only play against other York students.
Please check out our website for additional information.

If a student is interested in a school club, they sign up for it in the fall after school has started.
York High School Summer/Fall Athletics
On behalf of the York High School Athletics Department, we’d like to take this opportunity to welcome you to life as high school sports families. Although much of our programming will resemble that of middle school sports, the information contained in the attached letter is here to help answer some of the key questions that you may have between now and the start of the 2026-27 school year.
Middle School Camp at SRTC
SRTC is excited to host our Middle School Camp again this year. Enclosed is a flyer and below is the google form registration link. We are hoping that you or your designee can share this with rising 6th-8th grade students in your district. This camp fills on a first sign-up basis with preference given to those that have not had an opportunity to attend previously.
We are going to shut down the form on 5/29 for planning purposes. Again, first come first served so we may fill way before that!
Please let me know of any questions!
Yorkwise / York Parks & Rec Events for 7th & 8th Grade Students
York Parks and Recreation in conjunction with Yorkwise has a number of upcoming events/clubs going on including Kayaking, a Ping Pong Club and an E-Sports gaming event at USM for YMS 7th and 8th grade students! See flyers below.
