November Character Trait: Ethical Problem Solver 🧠
This month, our Kettering Kids will focus on being an Ethical Problem Solver. This means thinking carefully, considering others’ feelings and perspectives, making fair and responsible choices, and working toward positive solutions when challenges arise. Throughout November, we will be looking for students who demonstrate these qualities in the classroom, on the playground, and throughout our school community.
Families, please encourage your Kettering Kid to pause, think, and choose responsibly each day and earn Gold Slips along the way! At the end of the month, students who earn Gold Slips may have the opportunity to shop at our Gold Slip Store as a special celebration of their positive choices and character.
A huge thank-you to our PTA and the entire Kettering community for making Trunk or Treat such a fun and memorable event! We appreciate everyone who volunteered, decorated, donated, and came out to celebrate with us. It was wonderful seeing our school community come together and make such a special evening for our Kettering Kids!
A Message from Mrs. Hernandez, Kettering Principal
Dear Kettering Families,
As we head into November, I continue to appreciate the strong traditions, school pride, and deep sense of community that make Kettering such a special place. It has been a pleasure getting to know our students, staff, and families while building on the strengths that make our school thrive. Together, we are creating meaningful opportunities for our Kettering Kids to learn, grow, and Climb Higher each day.
This month, our character focus is being an Ethical Problem Solver. We will encourage students to pause, think through challenges, consider others’ perspectives, and make fair and responsible choices. Whether working through a disagreement, including others, or finding a positive way forward when things don’t go as planned, our students will practice the skills that help them become thoughtful decision-makers and caring members of our community.
At Kettering, we believe every interaction is an opportunity to create possibility, make a positive impact, and strengthen the connections that help our students succeed. Thank you for your continued partnership and for all you do to support our Kettering Kids.
Wishing your family a wonderful November filled with gratitude, growth, and opportunities to Climb Higher together!

November Character Trait: Trustworthy Human Being
Our character trait for this month is being a Trustworthy Human Being. Kettering Kids are learning the importance of being honest, even when it is difficult, taking responsibility for their actions, admitting when they make a mistake, and following through on their commitments so others know they can be counted on. We encourage families to continue these conversations at home and help our Kids understand how trust is built through our everyday choices and actions.
This month, our classroom wellness lessons will focus on consent, personal boundaries, and respectful relationships. In our primary grades, students will learn about personal space, appropriate boundaries, and the importance of asking for and respecting permission. In fourth and fifth grades, lessons will focus on sexual harassment, including how to recognize inappropriate behavior, understand the importance of respectful interactions, and identify trusted adults they can turn to for support. These lessons help our Kids develop the knowledge and confidence to respect themselves and others and to speak up when something does not feel right.
Finally, Kettering Elementary offers school-based mental health therapy with Mr. Roy Ho, with family involvement when appropriate. Services take place at school and are available at no additional cost for most families. If you would like to learn more or are considering referring your child for services, please see the attached flyer.
