Drivers Ed letter from Mark Hemberger
This year I am hosting an asynchronous course. It has been incredible how much more improved the delivery and the scheduling has been for the students and myself. They can take the course at their own pace, get constant reviews of concepts. Below is the information they will need to complete it. They can simply enroll and pay with the link below. Take the course as they are able (up to 6 months timelimit), and when completed they contact me to initiate the next steps paperwork. You can send this to any families needing the training:

Cell Phone Policy @ NCE
Parents/Guardians,
Please take the time to communicate with your students regarding the NCE phone policy. It is attached below for reference and there are important details below as well. Thank you for your help and support with this policy!
Important Cell Phone Details
There are no cell phones in the elementary setting. Students can bring cell phones to school but may not use them until after school is over. If elementary students want to contact parents, they must communicate to their teachers.
Grades 7-12
There are no cell phones in academic settings. Cell pones are permitted in all classrooms and other academic settings. Cell phones can be used in between classes and during break and lunch. Students may earn the right to use cell phones during AIT.
All cell phones are governed by the school when students bring them into the building. NCE has the right to refuse any student from bringing or using a cell phone in the building. Students do not have the right to refuse giving up a cell phone to a staff member. Staff members will not make any attempt to open, search, or use a student's cell phone.
NCE Phone Policy
AIT (Academic Intervention Time)
Academic Intervention Time is an intentional time to focus on academic progress and support. The focus of AIT is to support students in their academics. All other activity during AIT is secondary to academic support.
Students may be requested by any teacher during AIT. If a student is requested, they must go to that teacher.
If a student is not requested, that student has choices. They may remain in their AIT room, ask to go to another teacher, ask to go to the media center, ask to go to the gym, or ask to leave the building if they are eligible for open campus.
Students can only use their phones in the media center during AIT.
In order for a student to go to the media center or the gym, they must not be requested by another teacher and they must have C’s or higher in all of their classes. No student can request to leave AIT if they have any Ds or Fs. They may request to go to the teacher(s) for help in those classes.
Students that are in the media center must be there for quiet study or quiet recreation on their devices. If students want to be active, they must go down to the gym.
Our teachers are signing students up for AIT if they need them to catch up or are in danger of failing the class. With 155 minutes of AIT per week, failure is not an option for our students at NCE. We will do everything we can to ensure our students are successful in their classes.
Please visit with your 7-12 students about AIT.
Bus Safety & Etiquette Help Needed
Parents & Guardians,
It has been brought to our attention that we need to revisit and teach bus safety and etiquette to our students. We kindly ask that you have a conversation with your children about the following bus safety and etiquette standards that we are going to address with our students:
1. Students need to choose a seat and stay in that seat until they are dropped off. They cannot stand while the bus is moving.
2. When sitting in their seat, students need to face forward at all times for their safety.
3. We expect students to refrain from using poor language and to maintain respectful behavior towards others.
4. Students should keep their hands to themselves and refrain from any form of physical contact that may disrupt others.
5. It's important for students to speak at a normal volume, ensuring a peaceful and pleasant environment for everyone on the bus.
6. Lastly, we encourage students to express their gratitude by thanking the bus drivers when they are dropped off.
We truly appreciate your support in reinforcing these standards with your children. By working together, we can ensure a safe and positive experience for all students who utilize bus transportation as well as showing gratitude and respect for our bus drivers.
Daily Schedule for 7-12th Grade
Our schedule for grades 7-12 will have a 10 minute break between 2nd and 3rd period. Students will be able to take a 10 minute breather with snacks and drinks available. The school day for 7-12 has been extended to 3:10. This gives elementary students time to get onto the bus and it also gives us 31 minutes of AIT/day.
