News from Candice
Hello Cougar Families!
Outdoor Education
It has been a wild week here with our 5th and 6th graders out at Outdoor Ed. They spent three nights at Stone Canyon Edventures in Larkspur learning about all things outdoors! I’m including a picture from the Archery range where Mrs. Feltz joined in the fun. We welcomed them all back yesterday, and they were tired, dirty, and happy. Cheers to great adventures!
Cell Phone & Smart Watch Policy
I would like to reiterate our school's policy regarding personal electronic devices, including cell phones and smart watches, to ensure a focused and productive learning environment for all students.
Our goal is to minimize distractions during the school day. To that end, please review the following guidelines with your student:
Cell Phones: Students may bring cell phones to school, but they must be turned off and stored in their backpacks for the entire school day.
Smart Watches: While students are permitted to wear smart watches, we require them to be in "school mode" or an equivalent setting that limits notifications and non-educational features.
Communication: Students are not permitted to text or call from their personal devices during school hours. If a student needs to contact you, they may use the phone in the main office. Similarly, if you have an urgent message for your student, please call the office, and we will ensure it is delivered to them promptly.
Consequences for Misuse: If a student is found using their personal device during the school day, the following steps will be taken:
First Instance: The teacher will confiscate the device, and it will be returned to the student at the end of the day.
Second Instance: The device will be sent to the main office, and a parent or guardian will be required to pick it up at the end of the school day.
We appreciate your partnership in this matter. Please take a moment to discuss these rules with your student to ensure we are all on the same page.

VISION AND HEARING -
Each year, Douglas County Schools conduct vision and hearing screenings for all students in the state-mandated grades (K, 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 9), as well as new students and special education students in all grades. The screenings are overseen by the School Nurse Consultants and conducted by the District Vision and Hearing Screening Team. The purpose of mass screenings is to detect academically significant vision
and hearing concerns. They will be at Copper Mesa on September 30, 2025. Please see the letter for more details.
