For some reason, the short weeks always seem to feel like the longest! Even though this week felt a little longer than expected, the positive energy throughout Fowler continued to shine!

As Mr. Snyder and I visit classrooms, it is wonderful to see our students engaged in meaningful, collaborative conversations. We love hearing students share their thinking, respond respectfully to one another, and demonstrate that they value different perspectives. Of course, there are moments when things don't go quite as planned. Sometimes students make mistakes, struggle to stay focused, or need reminders about how to treat one another. But that's all part of growing up—and part of what makes school such an important place to learn!

While it's easy to focus on the mistakes students make, I often remind myself that some of the most meaningful learning happens because of those mistakes. Helping students reflect, grow, and make better choices is one of the most rewarding parts of being an educator. After all, school is about so much more than academics!

Elementary Halloween Social

Our Student Council is hard at work planning and organizing a Halloween Social for our younger Tigers! This is a wonderful opportunity for our student leaders to put their leadership, organization, and teamwork skills into action.

  • Who: Students in Grades 3 and 4

  • When: Thursday, October 22, 2026

  • Time: 2:30–4:00 PM

  • Where: Fowler Auditorium

  • Cost: $3.00

Middle School Halloween Dance

Our Fowler PTO is hosting a Halloween Dance for our middle school students! We are looking forward to a fun afternoon or evening of music, friends, and Halloween excitement!

  • Who: Students in Grades 6, 7, and 8

  • When: Friday, October 30, 2026

  • Hosted by: Fowler PTO

We strongly encourage families to purchase tickets in advance. Knowing how many students plan to attend helps us prepare appropriately, including ensuring we have the right number of adults available to supervise and support a safe, enjoyable event.

Please see the flyers below for additional information about both events.

As always, thank you for your continued support of our students, staff, and school community.

Just a few other reminders (Some are repeat):

1. Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up. Each grade level/teacher will be posting in their newsletters their links to sing up. There are a few things to know that are a bit different than in the past years.

  • October 22nd we will host night conferences remotely only.
  • October 23rd we will host in-person conferences during the late morning through the afternoon.
  • All caregivers will be provided the opportunity for a conference. If for some reason an evening virtual or the day time slots don't match your needs, please reach out to the classroom teacher directly to set up an alternative.

Best

Purple Pinky Day 2026 Purple Pinky Day 2026

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map

October 22nd

Beginning in 1985 Rotary International, governments around the world, and a host of philanthropic organizations have partnered together in an attempt to have Polio become the second highly contagious and deadly disease to be completely eradicated globally along with Smallpox.

In 1985 approximately 350,000 children were killed or disabled by polio worldwide. Many survivors require ongoing medical care and support for the rest of their lives, and even many of those who do not show significant effects into adulthood develop major health issues related to polio as they reach older age.

Through the end of August in 2026, just 43 people have contracted polio globally this year with 2 of the 3 polio strains that have caused so much harm now completely eradicated. The remaining emerging cases are concentrated in the mountainous area between Pakistan and Afghanistan. International efforts to vaccinate children against polio in this region are ongoing and vigorous. The end of polio is breathtakingly close at hand.

Once again this year during Purple Pinky Day on October 22nd the Maynard Public Schools, in partnership with the Nashoba Valley Rotary Club and the Gates Foundation, is helping to raise the funds needed to wipe out polio, and to lend care and support to the millions of people who have contracted the disease in the past and are living with the aftermath. A contribution of a single dollar makes a huge difference as that is the cost of a dose of polio vaccine. The Gates Foundation continues to match every dollar raised with 2 additional dollars. In other words, for every dollar raised in Maynard 3 children can be vaccinated against polio.

Students from the National Honor Society at Maynard High School and students from the Junior National Honor Society at the Fowler School, along with staff members at all three buildings, will coordinate this year's efforts. Logistical support for Purple Pinky Day is also provided by the Maynard Branch of Middlesex Savings Bank in the form of collection envelopes and money counting and money handling services. 100% of the funds raised go directly to polio prevention and care.

When smallpox was finally eradicated in 1980, not only were millennia of human suffering at the hands of the disease ended, millions of dollars that were spent annually on the illness became freed up for use in other world health areas. We are on the brink of seeing the same benefit with polio. Help us get to the finish line!

Finally, Why is it called Purple Pinky Day? In rural areas of the world polio vaccine is given out orally as a drink that is quite sweet and tasty. Many years ago it was observed that some children would try to go to the back of the line to get a second cup of this yummy drink. Health care workers developed a system where, after giving a dose of vaccine to a child, they would dip their pinky finger in a dye made of grape juice to indicate that the vaccine had been given, and to prevent the child from receiving a second dose. In Maynard on October 22nd any student who wishes will also get their pinky finger marked purple with a harmless dye in solidarity with children around the world.

The Beacon Santa Fund The Beacon Santa Fund

Since 1965 the Beacon Santa Fund has been helping families in Acton, Bedford, Billerica,

Boxborough, Chelmsford, Concord, Lexington, Lincoln, Littleton, Maynard, Stow, and Westford

put a little something under the tree at Christmas.

The fund is now being managed by three women from Maynard. Since all board members and

helpers volunteer their time, the money you donate goes directly to help families in need.

This past year the Beacon Santa received over 360 applications (serving 837 children) from

people in all 12 towns we serve who need a helping hand to make Christmas memorable for

their children. In Maynard we helped 180 children. The fund would not exist without help from

people like you. A large portion of the money raised for this fund is given by students involved in

Maynard High School’s WAVM Radio and TV Station by conducting an annual Telethon (last

year they raised over $42,000!). The remainder is done with personal donations. Even a small

donation can help the Beacon Santa provide a gift card for a family in need.

Will you help?

How to donate:

Football Games: Student Spectator Expectations Football Games: Student Spectator Expectations

Home Football Games – Our Maynard High School home football games provide an opportunity for the entire community to get together outside on a beautiful Friday evening, hear the MHS Pep Band, and support Maynard Tiger Football! We want everyone in the community to feel comfortable at the games, so we have some guidelines for MHS and Fowler students and information for caregivers:

  • ALL School Rules Apply – We expect all students to behave responsibly, just as we do during the school day. If an adult asks you to stop doing something, please stop! School consequences apply to behavior at athletic events.

  • Absolutely NO throwing of flour – Members of our community have serious gluten allergies. Bags of flour will be confiscated and thrown away.

  • Have fun, get loud, and cheer for the Maynard Tigers! At the high school level, jeering against the other team is considered poor sportsmanship, and is not allowed.

  • PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS – Game Staff may not be able to see students in every corner of the complex at all times. Please instruct your students to stay at the game, in the lighted and supervised areas of the Alumni Field complex, for their safety. Even better, come out and join the other adults so you can keep an eye on your student, which is safer AND more fun!
