Occupational Health and Safety
September 2024
Welcome to Occupational Health and Safety:
Hello, and welcome back to a new school year!
Newsletters are our way of communicating with staff throughout our geographically diverse division.
The promotion of Occupational Health and Safety starts with all of us, at each school and worksite.
This shared responsibility includes:
- Being aware of all policies and procedures within the Division.
- Protecting ourselves and others by adhering to the Division's workplace health and safety policies.
- Creating a work atmosphere in which health and safety is implemented with everyday operations.
- Reporting all injuries and incidents on Public School Works, regardless of how small they may seem, within 24 hours.
Information can be found on the Health and Safety Bulletin board (usually located in the staff room) and may include:
- Board Policy and Administrative Procedures
- Site Health and Safety Reps
- Disposable PPE (gloves, hearing and eye protection)
- Meeting Minutes/Newsletter
- Joint Health and Safety Worksite Committee members
As a worker, there are three fundamental rights:
- The right to know about workplace hazards.
- The right to participate in Occupational Health and Safety.
- The right to refuse unsafe work.
I encourage you to be part of a solution focused program for health and safety in our school division.

Joint Health and Safety Worksite Committee
As per legislated requirements, we have a Joint Health and Safety Worksite Committee that meets quarterly.
Each school or site has 1 to 2 health and safety representatives and are listed on your health and safety bulletin board.
Through the Joint Health and Safety Worksite Committee, our aim is to provide a strong program to support our employees.
Meeting minutes can be found on My CTR intranet > Departments > Occupational Health and Safety.
The next Joint Health and Safety Worksite Committee Meeting will be held on September 24
May 2024 Health and Safety Audit
In May, we had a successful Health and Safety Audit. Newsletters will be used to communicate the Audit Action Plan with staff. Click on the red button to view the Audit Action Plan.

2024-2025 REPORTED INCIDENTS/POTENTIAL SERIOUS INCIDENTS
All incidents and potentially serious incidents, must be reported to your administrative team and the Occupational Health and Safety Coordinator.
Reported Incidents/Potential Serious Incidents Year to Date Reporting:
- 2 Slip, trip and falls
All reported incidents have been investigated to ensure we are doing everything we can to keep you safe at work. We encourage the reporting of “near misses,” as they have a potential to cause a serious incident. Please ensure you advise your Health and Safety Coordinator/Administration Team or site reps of all incidents. Click here for investigation outcomes.
It is our goal to educate staff, through newsletters, on the Occupational Health and Safety Program.
All incidents are entered into Public School Works and reviewed at the divisional Joint Health and Safety Worksite Committee meetings.
Remember, most work-related injuries and illnesses are predictable and preventable.
