HEMLOCK MIDDLE SCHOOL
May 30th - Jun 5th
Hemlock Hub
The Hemlock Hub is your one stop shop for information and student classwork during the school shutdown. Students are expected to successfully complete all assignments during this time period and grades in Skyward are being updated regularly as well to reflect this work. If you have any questions or concerns with your student's progress, grades or their ability to access their assigned work, contact their teacher(s) or contact principal, Terry Keyser at keyser@hemlockps.com or (989) 482-3429. Click on the link below to check it out.
ENROLLMENT IS NOW ONLINE!!
Hemlock Public School District has just released our New Student Online Enrollment for the 2020-21 school year. As we are all adjusting to the new normal, Hemlock PSD had plans in the works to have families able to enroll their children from home. These plans became a reality during these past few months, and is now up and running.
During the past several weeks, building secretaries took part in Skyward Zoom training to become familiar with the new enrollment system to assist families with the online enrollment process. The district has worked together to provide easy access for families through our web-page at hemlockps.com.
Superintendent Killingbeck stated, “This is just another example of our commitment to parents and students as we work to make the enrollment process better and easier for everyone involved."
Hemlock's Outdoor WiFi
Don't forget that the Hemlock Public School District has now added Outdoor WiFi at every school building.
Students’ Chromebooks will connect automatically. Family members can connect by agreeing to the district’s acceptable use policy and by entering their email address.
WiFi can be access from the High School in three locations:
- North parking lot – between the gym and stand concession stand
- Front parking lot
- South parking lot
Hemlock Elementary School – in the east parking lot.
Hemlock Middle School – in the south parking lot.
Ling Elementary School – in the main parking lot.
The WiFi signal is really solid and will appear as “HPS_PSK2” for student devices and “HPS_Public” for others.
Lunch Time
Greetings, Huskie Pack!
Since the '90s and Proposal A, Michigan school funding has been married to our state's economy. As you can imagine COVID-19 and our stay at home orders have taken a toll on our state budget and the School Aid Fund (SAF).
We need the federal government to intervene to make the next school year and beyond work for children. What can you do? Contact our elected officGials. Let them know we need federal dollars distributed to Michigan schools with a per-pupil formula, not utilizing the standard federal allocation methods that will exacerbate financial inequity.
Michigan's US Senators, Debbie Stabenow, (202) 224-4822 or (810) 720-4172 and Gary Peters (202) 224-6221 or (313) 226-6020
US House of Representative, John Moolenaar (202) 225-3561 or (989) 631-2552 and Daniel Kildee (202) 225-3611 or (810) 238-8627
I have found the best results with a personal phone call and a heartfelt message. Realize you most likely will speak with someone from their office that will relay the message. Please do your part to help out our students.
Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
All the best,
Don Killingbeck
Hemlock Farmers Market
The Hemlock Farmers Market starts Thursday June 18, 2020 from 4-7 pm at the Richland Township Park.
At this time, we plan on having a pre-order pick up table for customers for less contact. Watch for details to come as the market gets closer to opening.

Mr. Stedry's Chickpea Cookies
Prep Time: 8 min
Cook Time: 10 min
Ready in: 18 min
Makes about 14 cookies
Ingredients
1 1/4 cups canned Chickpeas, well-rinsed and patted dry with a paper towel
2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons (165 grams) Natural Peanut Butter (I usually throw unsalted peanuts into a food processor)
1/4 cup (80 grams) Natural Honey
1 teaspoon Baking Powder
a pinch of Salt if your peanut butter doesn't have salt in it
1/2 cup (90 grams) Chocolate Chips (I prefer dark chocolate chips)
Directions
Preheat your oven to 350°F. Combine all the ingredients, except for the chocolate chips, in a food processor and process until very smooth. Make sure to scrape the sides and the top to get the little chunks of chickpeas and process again until they're combined.
Put in the chocolate chips and stir it if you can, or pulse it once or twice. The mixture will be very thick and sticky.
With wet hands, form into 1 1/2" balls. Place onto a piece of parchment paper. If you want them to look more like normal cookies, press down slightly on the balls. They don't do much rising.
Bake for about 10 minutes. The dough balls will still be very soft when you take them out of the oven. They will not set like normal cookies.
Store in an airtight container at room temperature (or in the fridge) for up to 1 week.
