Message from Ms. Gullo

Dear Yellow Springs Families,

Happy New Year! I hope this communication finds you all well. Earlier this week you received communication from our superintendent regarding the delay of the start of hybrid instruction due to worsening trends in health metrics. I know this news brings much disappointment to all of us as we look forward to the time when we can work with our students in person.

In the updated plan for hybrid instruction, teachers will return to buildings on Wednesday, January 27, with students returning as part of an in-person hybrid model on Tuesday, February 16. If FCPS does not see positive trends in data by later this month, the implementation of the hybrid model will be delayed again with teachers returning Wednesday, February 10, and students returning Monday, March 1.

We are busy planning for the hybrid model of instruction. Planning for hybrid instruction requires us to examine all procedures in our building to ensure the safety of all. The YSES team is committed to providing a healthy and safe environment for our students and staff to return. Please stayed tuned for information regarding schedules and classroom changes for when the hybrid model of instruction starts. Please know the potential for a change in teachers exists as we plan for hybrid instruction regardless if you have selected hybrid instruction for your child or if you selected for your child to continue virtual instruction.

Below you will find a google form to complete regarding transportation. We want to make sure we have the most accurate information in our database regarding your child’s pick-up and drop-off location if you will be accessing transportation during hybrid instruction.

We will be having a learning materials pick up for all students on Friday, January 22nd. A schedule of pick-up times will be sent via Find Out First next week.

Thank you for your continued support of our students during virtual learning! We are most appreciative of all that you have done and continue to do to help our students SOAR!

Hybrid Transportation Form

With the disruption to our normal routines, we recognize that families may have different arrangements for childcare. Please respond to let us know the pickup and dropoff address for your child(ren) if they are using FCPS bus transportation. We are asking everyone who is riding the bus to respond, even if your transportation hasn't changed from previous years. If all children from your family have the same transportation information, you can list all of them in one response. Click the link to complete the Google form: Transportation Google Form

Congratulations to fourth grade student Niveah Wilson as her artwork was selected to represent Yellow Springs in the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Art Contest! The theme for this year's event was "Only in the Darkness Can You See the Stars: Courage to Be The Light". Niveah's award winning artwork is pictured below.

Winter Reading Challenge!

From January 1st to January 31st, YSES will participate in Beanstack’s Fourth Annual Winter Reading Challenge, “Book Like Us,” sponsored by Simon and Schuster (S&S). Mrs. Hyatt is challenging you to read at least 300 minutes during the month and keep track of your reading on our Beanstack site at the Yellow Springs Media Center Homepage. Thousands of libraries and schools across the nation will encourage their communities to read a target number of minutes and books.
