NorthPoint Seniors and Families—Remember, next Monday, September 8TH, is the due date for the materials clipped together (left-hand side of folder) from the Senior College Planning Night. Materials that are required to be returned are:
Signed High School Transcript and Senior Schedule of Classes—If there were any mistakes noted, please write these in with a red pen for review by Mr. Maslin and me.
The signature page of the college planning guide. Sign this indicating your family has reviewed the packet in its entirety and understand the application process.
The High School Transcript Request Form completed with the student’s name, graduation date, date of request, and a complete list of all colleges/universities on your application list. Include addresses and dates materials must be received by the schools to meet any application deadlines. Also note any special instructions. Sign at the bottom.
Once I have these returned, I will begin uploading transcripts and all other supporting documents in Scoir for all student applications!
Please check application requirements. If teacher letters of recommendation are needed, ask teachers now! Remember, recommenders should send letters to me to be uploaded in Scoir. They are not to be seen by the student or given to the student. Integrity of letters of recommendation stems from the fact that they are kept confidential. If you see that any of your colleges require a counselor recommendation or form, please complete the Student Self-Assessment sheet from the packet and return to me with a copy of the resume.
Remember to add the Financial Aid Night to your calendars for Wednesday, September 10th at 6:30. Go ahead and create your FSA ID that we talked about in the meeting now. Remember to do the student one first, and then the parent one a few days later.
Be sure the “APPLYING” column in Scoir is now correct.
New 9th Grade Students and Families:
I will be meeting with the 9th grade class as a whole during Study Hall on Monday, September 8th. Please be certain that you have purchased a plastic (or metal) file crate and at least one pack of 25 hanging files with labels by this date. I will be explaining how to create and manage the college file throughout high school. Even if your student does not have current plans to attend college, this is still a helpful organizational tool for keeping important information together and for tracking activities, contacts, awards, etc. Think of it as a “me” file for planning life after high school:)
Examples: file crate and hanging files with labels
I will also be talking with 9th grade students about my role as their academic and college advisor to include some of the things we will begin to work on together later this year! Our 9th graders will be creating Scoir accounts to learn about majors and colleges and will even do some career inventories in the spring!
Finally, I will talk about GPA and calculations at a very basic level. My goal is for students to understand why it is important to put their best foot forward into each course in high school. They are beginning the record that will follow them forward and make possible college and career opportunities in the not so distant future.
ALL NCA High School Families:
Financial Aid Night is Wednesday, September 10th. Please plan to be here. This is a great introduction for planning for the financial part of higher education including need-based and merit-based aid! Expert, Timeka Ruffin, from College Foundation of North Carolina will be our keynote speaker. If your child is not yet in high school, you are still welcome to attend. Earlier is better when planning for tuition costs!
The National Christian College Fair is right around the corner. I will be meeting with each grade in a couple of weeks to hand out postcards with the QR code so students can register. They will need to do this ahead of time. Also, I will give them a few tips about how to navigate a college fair. Hopefully, this will ease any anxiety about the process. It should be a fun evening. Plan to come out to Charlotte Christian School on Monday, September 22nd from 6-8PM.
Have a blessed week!

Good evening Nighthawk families!
I hope everyone is enjoying the long weekend! I just wanted to share what I covered in my classroom lessons this week for the K-6th graders. This week we talked about what a school counselor does and how they serve the school. We did a game show for the 3-6th graders to introduce the role of a school counselor and we did introductory games and worksheets with the K-2nd graders. I’m so happy that I had the opportunity to get to know more about your students and begin our bi-monthly lessons.
Also, Beta Club will begin next week. Please have your students keep an eye out for an email from me related to topics we will cover and when we are meeting. As an extra reminder we will be meeting Tuesday, September 2nd at 3:00. Our meeting should not take long, but please encourage your students to attend in order to not miss essential information regarding the club this year. Thank you for your time and I’m excited to see your students back at school on Tuesday!

Lower School Chapel
This week in Chapel, we focused on how gratitude is more than saying "thank you" — it’s how we live and shine God’s love to others. Our Daily Spark reminded us, “A grateful heart shines God’s love,” and we explored Philippians 2:14–15, learning that when we choose not to grumble or argue, we shine like stars for God.
Through a powerful message, we talked about how gratitude helps us treat others kindly, stay positive even when things don’t go our way, and grow into thoughtful, respectful members of our school family. We learned that even quiet choices — like listening, sitting up respectfully, and not interrupting — are ways to show a grateful heart.
Our “Grumble or Gratitude?” game helped students reflect on everyday choices, and we ended Chapel with the “Before the Bell” Gratitude Challenge — encouraging each child to thank a teacher or classmate before the end of the day.
We wrapped up with lots of smiles and a joyful time of worship with the song “Celebration” by Forrest Frank — reminding us all that being grateful is worth celebrating!

This week, we continued our series titled Theology 101. In this series, we will explain why what we believe about God truly matters. Whether your students are new to the faith or seeking to deepen their understanding, this will be a valuable opportunity to strengthen their spiritual foundations. This week's topic: Christology: The Study of Jesus Christ. Jesus is eternal, along with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. We see support for His eternal existence in His words, prophets before He was physically born, and through what the Apostles continued to teach after His ascension into Heaven. The eternal God humbled Himself into the form of a man to live among us, relate with us, and draw us closer to Him on the deepest of personal levels.
