Principals' greeting
Dear Pleasant Valley Families,
Thank you all for a great year of partnership and allowing us to teach and learn with your students. We value the time we get each day at Pleasant Valley to work together to know your student by Name, Strength and Need. It takes an entire team of educators, working together to support students at the highest level. We are lucky to have amazing teachers and staff at this school who are dedicated to supporting your students and making educational growth the highest priority.
We only have a few days left with your students, but we are going to make them count. Please remember on Monday we have our 8th grade move-up celebration. Then on Tuesday and Wednesday we have half days of school for all students. Please know our teams work hard this week to finalize missing assignments, wrap up tests and of course, have some fun with our PVM kids.
Take care this summer and enjoy the time with your family. Our entire staff uses the summer to recharge, grow professionally and then plan for another fantastic year at Pleasant Valley. We look forward to serving your family and supporting their educational journey again in the fall. In addition, we wish our 8th graders the best of luck as they head off to high school next year. We will update everyone in August with welcome back letters and dates for our open house and key details. Until then, stay safe and enjoy your summer breaks!
Have a great week (And summer) -
Austin Brothers (Principal)
Erin Thompson (Assistant Principal)
PVM marching band and color guard awarded Jr. Parade Sweepstakes
Congratulations to our PVM marching band and color guard for being awarded top honors with the Sweepstakes Award at the Fred Meyer Jr. Parade! Mr. deBra, Mr. Dunn and our marching band, as well as Mrs. Pace, Mrs. Benjamin, Mrs. Ohama, our color guard team and many wonderful parent and staff volunteers worked tirelessly to prepare for this parade. The hard work showed in their crisp, perfectly spaced march, wonderful flag displays, and well executed music. Patriot Pete was, again, a favorite, greeting the crowd and delighting the judges.
Thank you to all who contributed to this great experience for our band and color guard.
If you did not get a chance to watch our kids march, there is a link below to the FOX12 coverage of the parade. Pleasant Valley Middle is shown starting at minute 43:45.
8th Grade Ceremony and Celebration details - June 9th 11:00 - 12:30
Yearbook distribution and expectations contract
We do still have a few yearbooks left; they are $20 cash or check. First come first served. Yearbooks will be handed out this week, homeroom teachers will let students know when they will receive their yearbook.
To ensure that all students are aware of our expectations regarding signing others' yearbooks, every student will review and sign a contract on Monday to show that they have been made aware of expected behavior regarding handling and signing of yearbooks, and the consequences if a yearbook is defaced or damaged by someone.
Contract pictured below.
Notes from the Nurse - end-of-year med pickup
Greetings from Pleasant Valley Nursing Team.
All medications (including those from Outdoor School) MUST be picked up no later than Wednesday, June 11th, 3:00 p.m. Any unclaimed medications will be sent to the district to be disposed of properly.
Please make arrangements to pick up any medications your child may have left over at school after the final day of student attendance. Medication can be picked up by an adult through the health room during normal school business hours by June11th, 2025, 3:00 p.m . Any leftover medications still in the health room at the end of the school year will be stored in a locked cabinet until 3pm on June 26, 2025. Medications that remain at school after that time shall be destroyed.
End of the year paperwork (medication at school, emergency action plan, asthma questionnaire, and life threatening health condition forms), to include paperwork to be signed/completed for the following school year 2025-26, was e-mailed to parents/guardians May 13, 2025. All paperwork is to be updated every school year. Instructions were provided in the email. If you need a hard copy of any forms, please contact your school's nurse's office. (PVM call 360-885-5500)
Thank you for allowing us to meet your child's health care needs while at Pleasant Valley Middle School!
Updating Tdap vaccination for students moving up to 7th grade
Incoming 7th grade students: 7th grade is the year students will need a Tdap booster vaccination. Please verify with your healthcare provider that your child is up to date on vaccinations. Please give updated vaccination records to the school when the school office is open again in August, if you have received vaccinations over the summer.
Annual Update of forms in Family Access
Please be sure to complete the 2025/26 Annual Update in your Family Access account when it becomes available in August. This is how contact info, health info, emergency contacts etc are updated each year. Health information in the computer this year WILL NOT pull through to next year; health information must be re-entered EVERY year, or there will not be a record of your student's medical information in our system.
WA immunization requirements
Life threatening health condition/allergy
If your student has a life threatening medical condition/allergy, we must have updated health information each year as well as medication at school forms for any rescue medications that need to be kept at the nurse's office at school. Parents and nurses work together to create an Emergency Action Plan (EAP) for what to do for your child in the case of a medical emergency. Please contact our nurses if your student has a life threatening medical condition/allergy and you have not already alerted the school and had an EAP created. Students and parents will need to meet with nurses before a student may self-carry any rescue medications.

Updating contact and health information
Parents/guardians please make sure you are updating the School Health Form in Skyward each year so that we have correct and current information regarding your child/ren (complete the "Update" in Skyward Family Access. Update opens August 1st each year to update school forms.). Skyward does not pull information forward each school year. There are many School Health Forms that have not been updated for 2-4 years. We need current information and this is how we most often know if your child has a Life threatening health condition. We want to keep your child/ren safe while at school and we can't do our job if we do not have correct and updated information.
Thank you for your time in this important matter.
From your School Nurse Janel Salisbury, BSN, RN & Building Nurse Diane Davis, LPN

Additional information:
All library books and textbooks must be returned now
Please return all library books and textbooks now. Unreturned books have been marked as lost and a fine has been assessed. Unpaid fines for damaged and lost books will prevent students from participating in extracurricular activities.
For students who will not be returning to a Battle Ground Public Schools school in the fall, their Chromebook/charger/case must be returned to the media center on the student's last day of attendance. (students moving over the summer who did not turn in their Chromebooks may return items to the district office). Please be sure to notify the office if your student will not be returning to Pleasant Valley Middle in the fall (or to a Battle Ground high school for 8th graders moving up).
Let the office know if you are moving, update enrollment status 360-885-5500
If you are moving over the summer, please let the school office know if you will be withdrawing your child from Pleasant Valley (360-885-5500, info.pvm@battlegroundps.org ). You may update your contact information in Skyward.
If your new address takes you out of district or PVM boundaries and you still wish to remain enrolled at PVM, you will need to complete a boundary exception application. You may find more information about boundary exceptions on the district website.
Skyward upgrade coming this summer
Battle Ground Public Schools will be transitioning to a newer version of Skyward - Family Access this summer. While we anticipate minimal disruption for parents, there are a few dates you should be aware of:

Applications for out-of-district student transfers in 2025-26 will be accepted starting at 7 a.m. on May 1. Applications submitted prior to that date will be denied, and the family will need to submit a new application after May 1. Applications will be processed in the order in which they are received.

Learn about potential new curriculum for all high schoolers and provide input
You're invited: Learn about potential new curriculum for all high schoolers and provide your input
Battle Ground Public Schools is considering new curriculum for social and emotional learning that would be used starting next school year, and eventually affect all high school students in the district. We believe that input from families and community members is essential to the process of adopting this new curriculum.
Over the past year, the district has reviewed different curricula and narrowed the options to one finalist, Wayfinder, that will be presented to the school board for their consideration. Now you have an opportunity to be involved:
Review all of the lessons
See the teaching materials
Ask questions
Provide feedback that will help inform the school board’s decision. The first reading of the proposed curriculum will be during the board of directors meeting on July 28, 2025. Get meeting information.
How to participate
Everyone is welcome, even if they do not currently have a child enrolled in a Battle Ground school.
Virtual review on Tuesday, June 10, at 6 p.m. Join the Zoom meeting. Due to copyright restrictions, this meeting will not be recorded.
Community review night Thursday, June 12, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at CASEE A (11104 N.E. 149th St., Brush Prairie, WA 98606). Drop in anytime, no RSVP required.
By appointment June 2-June 22. To make an appointment, please email projectaware@battlegroundps.org or call Assistant Director of Project AWARE Erick Suksdorf at 360-885-5440.
View limited samples online. The full lessons and teaching materials can be viewed only during the review night or by appointment due to copyright restrictions.
After you have reviewed the curriculum, we invite you to provide your feedback by June 22.
Why this curriculum matters
The proposed curriculum would build on the social-emotional learning already in place for primary and middle school students since 2023. It aims to support high schoolers with essential life skills such as kindness, respect, communication, collaboration, self-confidence and adaptability. Past surveys of BGPS students, parents/guardians and staff members have pointed to the need for schools to teach character education and a variety of social and emotional skills.
If approved, the items would be purchased using funds from a grant that the district received in 2023.

Common apps for teachers
Battle Ground Public School teachers use a wide variety of applications in the classroom, for content delivery, assignments and assessments. Apps, like PDF creator Kami, interactive video platform Edpuzzle, WeVideo, Pear Deck slide presenter and more. The apps help boost engagement and highlight different ways students can show what they know and do, and offer different ways to interact with content and respond to prompts. Learn more.
Online accessibility
Ensuring all students have access to a quality education is a primary focus for Battle Ground Public Schools. Technology is a key to enabling access for students with various needs and challenges. Common accessibility tools include text-to-speech (read aloud), speech-to-text (voice dictation), color contrast options and magnification adjustments.
Accessibility features fall under the umbrella of Inclusive Technologies. Visit the district’s online resources page for more information on these resources and how you can access them if needed.
Report incidents anonymously with Vector Solutions reporting system
Report, don’t repost
If you see or hear of a possible threat, please report it to law enforcement directly and/or to school staff. This is the best and most helpful action because it begins an investigation and helps to limit the potential for misinformation to spread.
Reposting or sharing a threat on social media in an attempt to warn others spreads the threat farther from its original source and may cause unnecessary alarm and fear.
You can report bullying, intimidation, harassment, threats and safety concerns using our anonymous reporting system. Emergencies should always be reported to 911.
