Message from Dr. Collins

Greetings MLK Families,

Our vision is to provide innovative learning experiences to each and every student to give them opportunities to succeed. Our mission is to foster a learning environment that nurtures and support our students' academic achievement, social responsibility, and personal growth. It is important that everyone who steps through our doors- students, parents, teachers, and staff - are excited to be here!

At Martin Luther King, Jr. Elementary, we take great pride in the strong partnerships among parents, students, community members, administrators, teachers, and staff. Together, we are building a lasting legacy of success through meaningful relationships and shared commitment. Our continued focus on social-emotional learning, purposeful use of student data to guide instruction, and consistent implementation of a rigorous curriculum will help every student achieve their goals and thrive throughout the school year. Students can look forward to engaging learning experiences that foster relationships, create real-world connections, and take place within a safe, caring, and supportive environment.

With gratitude and appreciation,

- Dr. Collins

We have several platforms that we use to communicate with parents. It is important that we have an updated address and phone number on file. Here are the platforms for communication with parents:

  • Parent Link- A school cast is sent to the number in PowerSchool (via text message, email, or phone call).
  • Parent Square from teachers and administrators.
  • Weekly Newsletters from the teacher and the school to provide information to parents
  • Monthly Newsletters from the principal
  • Nicky Folder- important information and other paperwork is sent home daily.
  • Student Planners- students in grades 2nd through 5th should bring home their planners daily with homework assignments, class assignments, and any notes from teachers/parents to read and respond too.
  • Flyers- announcements are not only made via Parent Link, but flyers are sent home and posted on social media two weeks in advance for upcoming events.
  • Social Media- information regarding the school or any upcoming events are put on Facebook and Twitter.
  • Parent Conferences- schedule a parent conference with the teachers or administrators . Teachers schedule conferences during their planning period or after school. Administrators schedule conferences throughout the day.
  • Marquee-information is updated weekly on the school marquee.

At MLK Elementary, it is our goal to overly communicate with our parents and we do so in a timely manner. Please contact us if you are not receiving any of the communication being set out to ALL parents.
