Weekly Progress Reports

I sent progress report on Wednesday. It shows their overall behavior was from the week prior. I shared any notes about your child on the report. Please look out every week for the reports (They will be in their blue homework folder). They are always due on Fridays.

If the progress report is turned in by Friday, the students get extra recess! :)

Academics

ELA

The new text we are reading is called Money Matters. It is a non-fiction text that talks about the world of money from banks to budgeting. The essential question is how do writers support their opinions with reasons and explanations. We will focus on the main purpose of a text which we refer to as P.I.E (persuade, inform, and entertain); main idea and details; and text features.

Due to events happened around school, we will be taking the reading selection test on Tuesday, 11/14.

Writing:

In writing, we will begin to prepare ourselves for writing an opinion essay. Students will have to use reasons and explanations to support their opinion. They will get a list of topics to choose from and from there their persuasion begins. We will work on this essay for about 4 weeks.

Math

The students are slowly starting to remember their multiplication facts. They are doing very well with the concept, and they can also relate it to division. We completed two quizzes on multiplication, and they will be sent home next week (attached to their progress reports).

We are going to start looking at word problems, where multiplication will be needed to solve the problems.

Science/Social Studies

In social studies, we are focusing on communities and geography. We are reading and discussing the Great Lakes, continents, landforms, country regions, and human geography.

Attached are pictures and videos of the students' gallery walk of their playground dioramas:
