Boyden Extended Day
This month at Boyden Extended Day has been busy and our students have had so much fun! Now that the weather is cold and we have been inside, We have incorporated some new routines into our program. Boyden Extended Day has enjoyed art, gym, hall games, sharpie coloring and clubs.
Art Program:
In art, we have created beautiful paintings on canvases. These canvases came with a sample of how the picture should look and the students copied them. Our very own artists did such an amazing job with this project, they were stunning! Also, our new slime kit was a huge hit. We created different colors of slime with add in colors and charms. The students had great fun with this activity. Lastly, we continued with our Sharpie coloring. We are working on a large valentine picture as a group and it will be hung on the wall for the Sweetheart Dance on February 7th, here at Boyden.
Gym Program:
This month in the gym, we have been introducing instructional games for k-1 students, such as Capture the Flag, running skills, and some tag games. Also, the older students in grades 2-5 have a few favorite games on repeat, such as Treasure Hunt, Capture the Flag, Flag Ball and Kick Ball.
Hallway Games:
Additionally, on the days we can't get to the gym, we have a brand new game in the hall called "knee hockey". We follow regular floor hockey rules but the students have to crawl on their knees and use a small noodle to push the ball along. The students love this new game and we will be playing a knee hockey tournament in the next few weeks.
Winter Clubs:
Our Hess Truck Club is a continuous activity that will be great to continue during the coming months. Also, we have started making friendship bracelets for an additional club. The students will put a positive word on the bracelet and give it to another student out of kindness. This is a great way to encourage positive friendships and kindness within our program.
Updates and Announcements:
We are continuing our collection of pop tabs. Thank you to everyone who has contributed. Please remind students not to bring in any type of toys or cards from home. If the weather permits, we will be going outside. Please send your child with warm clothing in case they want to go outside. Also, if your child is wearing boots, they will need sneakers if they want to participate in gym games.
Elm Extended Day
Hello Elm Families,
During the months of December and January, students and staff at Elm Street Extended Day enjoyed a variety of fun activities that were offered at our program. First, students participated in our second annual Jingle Jog! This activity was a great opportunity for students to enjoy the holiday season, while jogging with their peers! We are excited to continue offering this yearly activity at Elm Street School.
While spending time indoors, we kept busy with our crafts, games and hallway sports. Activities such as indoor horseshoes, four square, ski ball, hockey and soccer were some of our favorites. As we look forward to the month of February, we are excited for the fun to continue!
This is a friendly reminder to please continue sending your students to Extended Day with warm clothes, so that we can go outside when the weather permits!
Fisher Extended Day
Hello Fisher Families,
January was a month full of fun at Fisher Extended Day! Please make sure to read the rest of our newsletter to see what we have been up to!
Program Highlights:
This month, students participated in many activities that sparked lots of creativity, such as using building materials to come up with different creations and designing new movement activities during both the morning and afternoon programs. Also, students enjoyed playing board games of their choice with their peers. In addition to these activities, a couple of the students from the morning program volunteered to read their books to the group. This was so great to see!
Additionally, many of our students in grades 3-5 have volunteered to be peer mentors in the gym. Our peer mentors help students in grades k-1 to learn new games, including pillo polo and a new hula hoop game. This has been a great opportunity for everyone to work together as a team! Lastly, our Spoons Tournament for students in grades 4-5 has been a huge success! Each week, many of our students look forward to this friendly competition and we look forward to seeing more students getting involved each time.
Announcements/Upcoming Information:
Fisher Extended Day is continuing to collect pop tabs until the end of the school year! So far, we have received 1,802 pop tabs. Nice work! Also, during the month of February, we look forward to introducing a chess tournament and talent show during both the morning and afternoon programs.
OPR Extended Day
Hello OPR Families,
OPR Extended Day has had a busy last two months! In December, Mr. Marcos returned from college during his winter break and he worked during every afternoon and some mornings. It was great having him back on the team and we look forward to his return in May. Also, Ms. Bridget has begun planning for her upcoming maternity leave later this school year. Lastly, our students completed many activities during the month of December. We created a variety of cards for the local Firefighters and First Responders and we also enjoyed a variety of winter seasonal crafts and games.
During the month of January, Extended Day continued with a variety of different clubs, such as Sticker Club, Puzzle Club, and BIG Snowflake Club, which includes making large hanging snowflakes, scratch art snowflakes and stain glass window snowflakes. Sticker club has been a HUGE hit and students have come up with a ton of different sticker creations. Also, we were generously donated a large puzzle mat to save our 1,000 piece puzzle that the students have been working on daily both in the AM and PM. Ms. Danielle’s Taylor Swift Club was in full swing this month and students made a variety of Taylor’s Snowflake necklaces with different beads and snowflake pendants. Towards the end of January, we were fortunate to have our Wii return! The students were excited to get some extra movement during the colder afternoons. Also, we celebrated the upcoming Lunar New Year - 2025 is the year of the snake!
OPR has been doing a tremendous job collecting pop tabs, now filling our THIRD bucket, awesome job everyone! The month of February is coming up fast and so is February vacation! Boyden Elementary will be hosting vacation camp again this year, available February 18th - 20th (Tuesday - Thursday). Ms. Bridget, Ms. Paula and Ms. Aimee will be present and we hope to see some students from OPR! Also, we will celebrate Valentine’s Day with some small decorations and Valentine’s Day bingo and games before vacation. If the weather permits, we will try to go outside for a little while during the afternoon hours. Please remind students they will be required to wear a jacket while outside playing. In the meantime, we will continue to have our weekly gym time, Wii movement games in the cafeteria, freeze dance and Walking club options available.
