Reading Commitment & Winter Break
At December 20th Community Gathering we committed to reading at least 10 days over winter break. I shared how we can help maintain our skills by reading for 20-30 minutes 10 times. I showed students a sample of how their reading drops in just a one week break if they don't read at all.
We all want students to rest, have fun, enjoy their families and have a wonderful break. We also know they have worked so hard this year to grow as readers and ask that students and parents commit to this reading challenge to help them maintain their skills.
If they turn in the completed challenge when school resumes we are planning a Hot Chocolate Bar to reward them! The button below provides a digital copy.
Winter Break is December 23rd-January 3rd.
MES wishes you a peaceful Winter Break.
SMCPS Schools and Offices will be closed during the Winter Break beginning December 23rd. MES will reopen on January 6, 2025, when students return.
Messages during this time will be answered after staff return.
This will be the last newsletter of the 2024 calendar year.
Happy Holidays!

Magnificent Mustangs
Adrian took time to report a problem to his teacher so a classmate could get help and his teacher could do something about it.
During a mystery science activity, Xzavier went above and beyond to help his partner to make sure they were both successful. He helped his partner enjoy the activity and learn about types of lava.
Kinsley helps her class recite the Pledge of Allegiance. She is showing positive leadership skills to her peers. She stands up and announces that we need to get ready for the pledge. She requests that all show respect by taking off their hats/hoodies, placing their hand on their heart and reciting the pledge in a respectful manner. She has stopped the students when these simple "rules" are not followed and has had everyone start again. The Pledge of Allegiance takes place everyday in a respectful manner due to her tutelage.
Grayson stepped in to assist a classmate with her crutches by gently taking them from her put them off to the side so that she could sit down on the carpet at the front of the room with the class.
