Winter weather safety reminders:
1. We are asking that all parents ensure middle school students (especially 5th/6th grade students with recess) are properly outfitted with warm clothes, and that they wear proper cold-weather attire before school, at recess, and after school.
2. Parents of High School Students: Please reinforce proper safety precautions for driving safely in potentially unpredictable winter weather. Students should operate vehicles with extreme caution, go extremely slow, and make sure to be extra careful for foot traffic in parking areas.

Bobcats in Washington D.C.
While we were all enjoying a snow day last week, 35 of our students were in Washington D.C. seeing many sites and memorials. This morning four of those students had the honor of laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Koralynn, Bailey, Briar, and Brayden were our representatives to lay the wreath. Not every school or tour group is able to participate in this ceremony, so we are honored to be able to pay tribute to those who gave their lives.
Whiteford's Angel Tree
The high school student council is sponsoring families this Christmas season. The tree is located in the high school gymnasium and will be there through December 15th. It will soon be full of ornaments containing items to donate for local families. Gifts need to be returned, unwrapped, by December 15th. There are also directions on the back of the ornaments. If you have any questions please reach out to Mr. Yockey at jay.yockey@whiteford.k12.mi.us

Grades Eligibility Reminder
As outlined in our 2025-2026 Athletic Participation Agreement: Students can be declared ineligible for academic reasons under any of the following circumstances:
Our next grades pull will be on: DECEMBER 18TH. Athletic Director, Mirandia Green, will reach out to any student-athlete who is ineligible for the following week. If you have any questions regarding athletic eligibility please reach out to Ms. Green at: mirandia.green@whiteford.k12.mi.us
- Student-athletes in grades 6-12 who fail two courses taken during the previous semester will be ineligible for sports for one full semester as outlined in the MHSAA Handbook. Students can recover credits and regain eligibility by participating in summer credit recovery courses (at the expense of parents/guardians). A 7th grade student may participate without reference to his or her record in the previous grade.
- No students in grades 6-12 shall compete for one week, Monday through Sunday, if they are failing two or more classes on the bi-weekly eligibility list. The bi-weekly eligibility list will be synced via Schoology and Infinite Campus by 2:00 p.m. on Thursday and covers all work from the beginning of the semester to the current date of eligibility. Students will be informed by the Athletic Director by Friday of their impending ineligibility for the following week. Students who are ineligible for any two weeks of the season under this rule will be dismissed from the team for the season.
1:1 Technology
Students will be supplied a Chromebook, Chromebook cover, and a charger for the 2025-2026 school year, and will not be able to access our WIFI network with a personal device. Insurance WILL NOT BE OFFEED FOR PURCHASE for the 25-26 school year. Students are expected to properly secure and care for their Chromebook by correctly using the case and subjecting it to minimal wear/tear. If damage occurs (including those due to overuse/gaming), students/parents will be responsible for paying any fees associated with repairs. Parents must have ALL registration tasks completed via Infinite Campus in order for their student(s) to receive their Chromebook(s).
Updated Cell Phone Policy
A student may possess a wireless communication device or other electronic communication devices and electronic storage devices (ESDs) in school, on school property, at after school activities, and at school related functions provided that during school hours, school events, and on a school vehicle its use is not disruptive or distracting to the educational process, the scheduled activity, or other participants. Possession of WCDs, ECDs, and ESDs on school property remains the sole responsibility of the owner. The school is not liable for damage, loss, or theft of the device.
During the school day, the following guidelines will be established and followed:
Middle school students (grades 5-8) are prohibited from using cell phones and other personal devices during classes or passing times. These items should be in student lockers. Middle school students may use devices before school, after school, or during lunch only.
High school students are prohibited from using cell phones and other personal devices during classes. Students may store their device in their locker during class, or they must store it in a designated spot in the classroom during class. If the device is present in the classroom, the student is prohibited from using the device unless given express and direct consent from the teacher, dean, principal, or other school personnel. Should the student possess the device in the classroom when not given express permission (with device NOT located in the designated location) the teacher/principal/dean of students has the right to enact discipline based on this policy. Should students refuse to keep wireless devices in designated areas, they will be found in violation of this policy and subject to discipline. High school students may use devices during passing times, before school, after school, or during lunch, but not in the hallway during a scheduled class period.
For all students in grades 5-12, smart watches may be worn throughout the day. However, texting/social media/recording functions performed on smart watches fall under the cell phone policy listed above, and violations (including those based on reasonable suspicion) of said policy will result in discipline. Administration has the discretion to prohibit smart watches for students/classes who consistently violate this policy.
Air Pods, headphones, or other wired/wireless listening devices are prohibited in hallways and classrooms unless given express and direct consent from the teacher, dean, assistant principal, principal, or other school personnel.
Students who need to communicate with parents in regards to matters of illness, safety, transportation, etc., should communicate through the school office so administration is aware of any visitors to the building, medications, or potential illnesses/safety concerns.
Except as authorized under Board policy, use of WCDs and electronic storage devices in school, on school property, at after school activities and at school-related functions will be subject to disciplinary action.
Reasonable suspicion that a communication device has been used to violate District policies or administrative guidelines shall be subject to disciplinary action and may result in the communication device being confiscated.
The school prohibits the use of any video device from any restroom, locker room or other location where students and staff “have a reasonable expectation of privacy.” A student improperly using any device to take or transmit images will face disciplinary action up to and including suspension, loss of privileges, and may be recommended for expulsion.
“Sexting” is prohibited at any time on school property or at school functions. Sexting is the electronic transmission of sexual messages or pictures, usually through cell phone text messaging. Such conduct not only is potentially dangerous for the involved students, but can lead to unwanted exposure of the messages and images to others, and could result in criminal violations related to the transmission or possession of child pornography. Such conduct will be subject to discipline and possible confiscation of the WCD.
Taking or transmitting images or messages during testing is also prohibited. If a student is caught transmitting images or messages during testing, s/he will fail the exam and receive an alternate assignment or be suspended. S/He also faces automatic withdrawal from the class depending on the severity of the incident. Loss of privileges is an accompanying penalty, and expulsion is a possibility, even on the first offense.
WCD Discipline Protocol
First offense - Device is confiscated by school personnel. The administrator will return the phone or device in question at the end of the day. The parents will be informed. The phone or device may be prohibited from school for a period of at least two weeks, and may be prohibited for the remainder of the semester/school year, depending on the nature of offense. The infraction will be documented.
Second offense - The device is confiscated by school personnel and delivered to the office. The parents will be informed and the student will be assigned a detention, restorative action, or other disciplinary action will occur. The phone or device will be returned at the end of the school day; the phone or device will be prohibited from school for a period of one-to-two weeks and may be prohibited for the remainder of the semester/school year, depending on the nature of offense. The infraction will be documented.
Third and successive offenses - The device is confiscated by school personnel and delivered to the office. The parents will be informed and the student may be subject to a one-day in school or out-of-school suspension. The phone or device in question will not be returned until a parent comes in to pick it up. The phone or device will be prohibited from school for a period of at least two weeks, and may be prohibited for the remainder of the semester/school year, depending on the number and nature of previous offenses. The infraction will be documented.
Reasonable suspicion that a communication device has been used to violate District policies or administrative guidelines shall be subject to disciplinary action and may result in the communication device being confiscated.
Volunteer Forms
Whiteford Agricultural School District appreciates your willingness to serve as a volunteer in our district and become a substantial and vital part of our school programs! You can access the form here or from any school office. Please complete both sides of the form and return it to your student’s building office, teacher, or coach. Background checks will be done on an annual basis. The background check process is time consuming; therefore, appropriate lead time must be given to ensure background checks are completed prior to volunteer service at the school or for any function conducted by the school.
Medication
If your student will be taking medication during the school day (including over the counter meds) there are forms that need to be completed and turned in to the office. All medications are stored in the MS/HS office. Students are not permitted to keep any medication, including over the counter, in their locker. Parents must drop medicine off at the MS/HS office, as students are not permitted to do so. The office will be open at Registration Day and Open House to receive any medication that is accompanied with the appropriate forms, which can be accessed by clicking HERE and scrolling to the bottom/right of the page.
