The St Anthony's Way
As parents, we promote independence, resilience and perseverance
As we conclude what has been a very productive Term 3 at St Anthony's School, it is important to reflect on our commitment to fostering independence, resilience and perseverance in our students and children. These qualities are not only essential for academic success, but also for life beyond the classroom.
Last week's Faction Sports Carnival provided a wonderful opportunity to witness these qualities in action. Our students, cheered on by enthusiastic parents, demonstrated remarkable independence as they prepared for their races, organised their teams and participated with vigor. Many of them embraced the challenges with resilience, bouncing back from setbacks, whether it was a stumble on the track or a missed ribbon in their races. The atmosphere was filled with perseverance, as they pushed themselves to achieve their personal bests, inspiring each other to keep going.
At St Anthony's School, we believe that nurturing these values is a holistic effort. It starts at home, with parents encouraging their children to take on responsibilities and make decisions. And it continues in the classroom, where our teachers create an environment that celebrates both success and the lessons learned from failure.
As parents, your support is invaluable. Engage in open conversations with your child about their experiences at the Sports Carnival and highlight the importance of these qualities. Let them know that it's okay to stumble, as long as they get up and keep moving forward.
Together, we can instill the foundations of independence, resilience, and perseverance in our students, preparing them for a future filled with confidence and courage.
Thank you for being an integral part of our St Anthony's community.
Warm regards,
Mike Barns
Assistant Principal
Church Cleaners Required
The church is appealing for some new volunteers to help clean the church. It is not a huge commitment; you would only need to help once every three months. It involves a bit of dusting, vacuuming and mopping. The whole community benefits from the work of the volunteers so it would be wonderful to get a few more! Please contact the parish office if you are able to help. Tel: 9405 1110.
P&F News
Father's Day Stall
We hope all fathers and father figures enjoyed their Father's Day weekend. We trust you enjoyed receiving the gifts your children brought home for you. They certainly loved picking them out! Thank you to those P&F members and parents who helped prepare and run the stall over that week.
Bunnings' Sausage Sizzle
A huge thank you to all who volunteered their time and helped at the Bunnings sausage sizzle over the Father’s Day weekend. Helpers consisted of our own Principal Mrs Bandy, some of our teachers, P&F members, parents of the school and family and friends of parents at the school. Without your help this fundraiser wouldn’t have happened. Despite the wet weather we had a good turn out and raised some money for our school. Well done to everyone for their efforts.
Colour Run
The P&F colour run is tomorrow!!! We are super excited for this day. We hope your children are too.
These are the times each year group will run:
3+, Kindy and Pre-Primary 10:10am - 10:30am
Year 1 and Year 2 10:40am - 11:00am

Year 5 and Year 6 11:40am - 12:00pm
Parents and any students 12:10pm - 12:20pm
If coming along to watch your kids, we encourage you to be there 10 minutes before their run time. Students' recess times will be adjusted for the day. Students are to come to school dressed in a white t-shirt and school sport shorts/old shorts. Please have students wear a singlet or any other undergarments under their white tops if you feel the need, as water is on the course. Don't forget to be SunSmart and apply sunscreen! Please pack a bag for your children with their towel, school sport top and sport shorts to change into after they run.

Faith In Action
"The Exaltation of the Holy Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ" is a special day when we remember and celebrate a very important part of our Christian faith. Let me explain it in a way that's easy to understand.
Jesus was God's own son, and he came to Earth to teach us about love, kindness and how to be good to each other. But some people didn't understand his message, and they put Jesus on the cross, where he suffered until his death.
Even though it was a sad and painful time, something incredible happened: Jesus showed us how much he loved us. He gave up his life on that cross to forgive our mistakes and bring us closer to God. He took all our wrongs and said, "I forgive you because I love you."
In "The Exaltation of the Holy Cross," we remember this moment when Jesus showed us the incredible power of love and forgiveness. We remember the cross because it reminds us that, no matter what happens, there's always love and hope in our hearts, just like Jesus showed us.
We see crosses in our churches, homes, or even as jewellery. They're there to remind us of Jesus's love and sacrifice. And when we see a cross, we can think about how much God loves us and how we can try to be more loving and accepting of others, just like Jesus taught us.
Today, we remember Jesus's love and sacrifice and learn to be better by spreading love and kindness to everyone around us.

McAuley House is named after Catherine McAuley the founding sister of the Mercy sisters. The Mercy sisters were the first educators of our school. Her legacy lives on through the Sisters of Mercy and their ongoing work worldwide. The congregation continues to provide education, healthcare, and social services to those in need while advocating for social justice and systemic change.
Catherine McAuley's life exemplified the virtues of mercy, compassion, and service to others. Her dedication to the less fortunate and her commitment to education and social justice continue to inspire people of faith and goodwill.

Athletics Carnival 2023
Our week of Athletics began with our Kindy and Pre-Primary carnival on Wednesday afternoon. The children were kept busy rotating through their team games, which everyone loved. The children did an amazing job, remembering all the team games that they’d been learning this term. All children did a great job, running in their individual running race and the favourite race of the day would have to be the chicken run relay!
The Athletics Carnival was once again supported by many willing participants and helpers who contributed magnificently to making it a great day. Congratulations to Peregrine House, who won the carnival with a score of 1879 points. Servite House came second with 1771, McAuley House third with 1681, and Mercy House finished fourth with 1571.
Mercy House took the Unity Shield for the Athletics Carnival. Throughout the 2 days of competition the students of Mercy House, were continually displaying the PADUA values and were a united house!
There was plenty on display during the day. There was brute strength and lots of grunting in the tug-o-war, plenty of speed and grace in the running events, and teamwork in many of the games. Well done to all the children and the staff for all their efforts, especially the House Captains, who were extremely helpful in organizing students for their events.
The penultimate event of the day was the students’ verses, ex-students, and adults relay race. There were some amazing runs, and only one stack during the relays!!! The 2023 title was taken out by the ex-students – well done boys!
To all the helpers, please accept the school’s appreciation and a big thank you from me. Events like an Athletics Carnival and the Field Events Day don’t happen without the input of many volunteers who give freely of their time and help make these days the successes that they are. A BIG thank you to Mr. Greg Matta, who always goes above and beyond with everything he does – our school would be lost without you!
Congratulations to Peregrine House and our Individual Champion winners from years 3-6.
