May celebrates AANHPI Heritage!

During May we celebrate Asian American Native Hawaiian Pacific Islander Heritage! This is a huge geographical region spanning the Middle Eastern countries also known as Central Asia across the globe to the Pacific Island countries including the Polynesian Island such as Fiji, Guam, and Hawaii! All of the library displays are full of books by AAPI authors, stories, history, and culture. Be sure to come by and learn more about this region of the world and how it has contributed to US culture!

Don't forget to check out the resources available on our school's LibGuide and SORA collection as well!

Library End of Year Book Returns and Giveaway!

As the school year comes to a close, it is time to bring books back! June 1st, 2024 will be the final day for students to check out books for the year. Students will need to return books before the last day of school in order to ensure that the library can maintain its inventory for next year and students don't end up with lost books attached to their records. While Deal does not charge for lost or damaged materials, we do take donations from families of new and popular hard cover fiction in good condition.

Also, it is good practice for our 8th grade students who will be promoted to high school. Once a student leaves Deal, it is difficult to remove lost materials from their record. High schools also have a policy associated with reconciling debt and often will ask for materials owed to be paid for before a diploma is issued. This does not cover materials from elementary and middle school, but their records do maintain lost items from their previous schools that can only be removed by central office staff once they transition to a new school. All said, please return all borrowed materials before the end of the year or speak to Mr. Reichlen to have lost materials removed from their patron history.

The library is currently in the process of removing duplicate and old materials from the library to make space for new items. Throughout the month of June, students will have the opportunity to obtain free books! A donation cart will be located in the library for students who want books for the summer. Even though the library will be closed for borrowing, we will still be open for students to use the makerspace materials, media devices, and take advantage of free books!
