Head Cheetah Message
Families,
We had another wonderful week at Memorial. In addition to staying focused on academic growth, we wrapped up our field trips, raised money for St. Jude’s Hospital and our local animal shelters, and celebrated our rising 4th graders with a Special Person Social. Next week will be filled with our annual Fun Day events! Please remind your learners to dress appropriately, bring water bottles, and apply sunscreen at home. Any caregivers who are still looking to volunteer should contact Greg or Bob. Looking forward to a great week.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Best,
Joey & Andrea
2025-2026 Parent Feedback Survey
Each year we invite parent feedback regarding your student’s experience within our school community. Please note that our survey has been revised in line with the expectations of Public Act 23-167 and the survey includes only 12 brief multiple choice questions. The survey has been approved by the East Hampton Board of Education is both anonymous and optional. Should you choose to participate, we appreciate your feedback as it is an essential part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that every student feels safe, supported, and valued. The survey will remain open until Friday, June 12th.
Memorial - Parent School Climate Survey
Additionally, per Public Act 23-167 students in grades 3-12 will also be surveyed the week of June 8th. You can review the student survey in advance: Student Climate Survey. The student survey has also been approved by the East Hampton Board of Education and is both anonymous and optional. If you prefer that your student not participate in the survey or have any questions, please contact building administration by June 5th regarding your questions and or preferences for your student.

Raffle Winner
Congratulations to Lucy Coy, who won the basket of books that were signed by our visiting author, Ryan SanAngelo! Happy reading, Lucy!
St. Jude’s Trike-A-Thon
Our Smart Start preschoolers raised $867.oo for the children at St. Jude’s Hospital by asking for pledges during their Trike-A-Thon! Not only did our learners do a good deed, but they learned about bike safety, and enjoyed riding their bikes together. They even enjoyed a “bike wash” station!
Grade 3 Special Person Social
Last Friday, our grade 3 students had an amazing evening! Our rising 4th graders brought a special person with them to Memorial School for a Red Carpet event, where they danced, socialized, and played Bingo. A great time was had by all. Special thanks to the EHEPTO for organizing the event, and for rounding up a fantastic crew of volunteers!
Grade 1 Visits the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum Of Art
In each grade level, several works of art are embedded in our students’ Wit & Wisdom modules throughout the year. The artwork creates an opportunity for inquiry and analysis (through noticing and wondering); and it allows our learners to make connections between how artists use their craft to send messages in a similar way that authors make intentional choices in their writing. Mrs. Vining has been able to further this work in her art classes by collaborating with classroom teachers. For most students, it was their first time seeing some of these special pieces of art; and many acknowledged that they’d never been to an art museum. Therefore, the grade one team decided to take our cheetahs on the road to go to a REAL art museum, where they could put all of their newly learned inquiry and analysis skills to use! What a special trip! Carolanne designed a meaningful post-museum activity that allowed students to revisit a selection of the famous artworks they viewed at the Wadsworth and apply their newly developed art observation and analysis skills. Acting as art critics, students evaluated the pieces using a variety of criteria, such as which artwork was the best overall, demonstrated the strongest craftsmanship, showed the most creativity, or was one they would choose to display in their own home. To culminate the experience, students selected a piece that inspired them or that they admired most and used it as inspiration to create an original artwork of their own.
Grade Three’s Mathematicians Are Building Bridges
Grade 3’s final unit in Bridges Mathematics involves building actual bridges! Students were broken up into small groups and had fifteen minutes to create a beam bridge consisting of one beam and columns. Our learners worked collaboratively to problem solve during this highly engaging task.
Pet Food Drive Update
Smart started collected 132 cans/bags of pet food for the food bank.
Thank you everyone for your support!
PAWSitive Office Referrals
A PAWsitive office referral is submitted when a staff member recognizes a student who is going above and beyond to exemplify one of our three school rules - taking care of others, taking care of self, & taking care of things.
Memorial Models
Memorial Models are chosen weekly by their teacher. These students have excelled all week in taking care of themselves, others and things. The recipients will dine at a VIP table during lunch every Friday!

Order of the Cheetah
This week’s Order Of The Cheetah goes to Ms. Jen Hart. Ms. Hart is a hard-working, dependable paraeducator at Memorial School. She is an asset to our school community, and is a familiar face to students across all grade levels. Ms. Hart also serves as a leader during our bus dismissal, supporting students as they wait for their buses to arrive. We appreciate Ms. Hart’s commitment to our students’ safety, and her support in all areas of our building.

Dear Memorial Families,
As we near the end of the school year, we want to make you aware of the various opportunities the district will be offering over the summer months in order to support your learner’s continued engagement with mathematics and literacy. We recognize there are many summer activities for students to support their needs. With participation in any of the activities, your child will be able to maintain their skills over the summer months. Your support in this initiative is greatly appreciated.
Details about these opportunities and how your learner can participate can be found by visiting the district’s Summer Reading & Math website and exploring the available resources and links. All students will receive a hard copy of the district’s Summer Math Packet on Monday June 8th.
Students will receive a hard copy of the district’s Summer Reading Packet during the final week of Library Media. We will communicate a due date for completed summer activities in the fall and look forward to celebrating our students’ efforts with a fun recognition event.
For math related questions, please feel free to contact district math specialists Lis Ellis (K-2) or Andrea Winiarski (3-5).
For literacy related questions, please feel free to contact Rebecca Flannery (Library Media Specialist), Kerry Liebler (K-1 Literacy Specialist) or Abby Skarvelas (2-3 Literacy Specialist).
We hope you have “sum” fun with math and reading over the summer!

Notes From the Nurses Office
Sunscreen Policy
The East Hampton Board of Education believes in promoting sun safety to ensure that children are protected from skin damage caused by harmful ultra-violet rays in sunlight. The Board believes that by encouraging sun safe behavior and teaching children about the risks of sunlight, they can be protected from skin damage and lessen the risk of skin cancer.
New legislation (P.A. 19-60) allows school students, six years of age or older, to possess and self-apply an over-the-counter sunscreen product while in school prior to engaging in any outdoor activity, provided a written authorization is signed by a student's parent/guardian and is submitted to the school nurse.
**Please contact the school nurse if you need an authorization form for sunscreen application.
The sunscreen must be non-aerosol and must be approved by the FDA for over-the-counter use for the purposes of limiting ultraviolet light-induced sun damage.
Any questions and or concerns you can contact the nurse's office 860-365-4020 Ext. 816
