Dear Friends and Families of MLD,

It was such a pleasure to attend last night’s PTO meeting, which was very well attended and filled with great energy! We were joined by Superintendent Grimm, who stopped by to share his appreciation for the work happening here at MLD and answer questions about the budget and projected future growth of our school. The PTO also provided exciting updates on all the wonderful events and initiatives they have planned to support our students and staff this year.

During my Principal’s Report, I had the opportunity to recognize the dedicated staff members across RSU 21 who have been working on a grant to secure funding for the expansion of our Unified Sports program, as well as the introduction of new SEL (Social Emotional Learning) content that teachers will begin training on in early November.

I’m also thrilled to share that our MLD Band program officially launches next week—and we have 15 students signed up to learn to play instruments! That number is double what we had last year, and it’s so exciting to see our music program continuing to grow.

I encourage all families to consider getting involved with our PTO. This is a wonderful group of parents who help make so much possible at MLD. Each month, I share a brief report and updates from the school—it’s a great opportunity to ask questions, learn more about what’s happening, and connect with others who care deeply about our students’ success.

As we head into the weekend, it looks like we’ll be treated to some beautiful fall weather—perfect for getting outside, recharging, and enjoying the season. Wishing everyone a relaxing and sunny weekend ahead!

With gratitude,

Principal Keith

🎨 Square 1 Art Fundraiser 🎨

I’m writing to you today to inform you that the students at MLDay have been working on a really exciting art project! This year we are participating in a service learning project through the use of the Square 1 Art Fundraiser. Traditionally, Square 1 Art Fundraisers help to raise funds for the school or a specific classroom. This year, all of the proceeds raised from the fundraiser will be donated to The Community Gourmet. Founded by Traci Annello, a local to our three towns, The Community Gourmet is a grassroots, non-profit organization that aims to nourish, teach and provide food packages to those in need. In each package, there is nutritional information, recipes, small kitchenware items, spices, and most importantly, food! Along with providing food to individuals, The Community Gourmet also has on hand packages for emergency responders and provides emergency food aid to help in disaster relief efforts.

By giving back to our community, we are instilling in our children that their artwork is more than just a picture, but that it can actually change the world around us!

The students are working hard on completing their artwork to be shipped to Square 1 Art in a few more days. In November, your child will receive an ordering catalog and an online access code. Your child’s unique artwork can be purchased to be printed on several items, such as totes bags, coffee mugs, ornaments, blankets, etc. The list goes on! Of course, there is no obligation to buy anything and each student will receive their original artwork back regardless of purchase.

Families will have until November 12, 2025 to place their orders. Please mark your calendars and be on the lookout for your child’s catalog in early November. Products will arrive in December, just in time for holiday gift giving. In coming weeks, there will be more information sent home regarding further details of the fundraiser. Thank you for your support and for encouraging your child that their artwork can make a difference.

Sincerely,

Sarah McAtamney

MLD Art Teacher
