Greetings, Owens Elementary Community!

🎬 Every Jackrabbit Is a Star!

As a parent of four, I know we all want the best for our children. We want them to come to school, have positive experiences, and master the skills they need to be successful. As parents, we do the best we can to balance our jobs and family responsibilities. Some of our parents work long hours or even multiple jobs, and keeping up with all the demands of life and school can be challenging.

As the principal of Owens Elementary, I understand that I am ultimately responsible for ensuring our 671 students and over 100 staff members have the support they need to reach their goals each year.

Did you know our school theme this year is “Hollywood: Now Showing: Our Best Year Yet! Spotlight on Success—Lights, Camera, Action!”? Our theme reminds us that every student is a star, and together, we want to celebrate growth, achievement, and teamwork as we work toward our best year yet!

When we say “every student,” we mean EVERY student. Regardless of grade level, gender, ethnicity, or learning ability, we want each and every one of our Jackrabbits to experience success.

Parents sometimes ask what they can do to help, and I know many of you are already doing so much. Whether it's providing books to read, practicing math skills, helping your child apply what they learn in everyday life, or simply encouraging them to do their best, it all makes a difference.

We know that balancing everything isn't always easy, and we appreciate all you do to support your children and the work we're doing at Owens. Thank you for your partnership and for helping us make this their “Best Year Yet!”

🎬 ¡Cada Jackrabbit es una estrella!

Como padre de cuatro hijos, sé que todos queremos lo mejor para nuestros hijos. Queremos que vengan a la escuela, tengan experiencias positivas y dominen las habilidades que necesitan para tener éxito. Como padres, hacemos todo lo posible por equilibrar nuestras responsabilidades laborales y familiares. Algunos de nuestros padres trabajan largas jornadas o incluso tienen más de un empleo, y mantenerse al día con todas las responsabilidades de la vida y la escuela puede ser un desafío.

Como director de la Escuela Primaria Owens, entiendo que, en última instancia, soy responsable de asegurar que nuestros 671 estudiantes y más de 100 miembros del personal tengan el apoyo que necesitan para alcanzar sus metas cada año.

¿Sabían que nuestro tema escolar de este año es “Hollywood: ¡Ahora en cartelera, nuestro mejor año hasta ahora! Enfocados en el éxito: ¡Luces, cámara, acción!”? Nuestro tema nos recuerda que cada estudiante es una estrella y que, juntos, queremos celebrar el crecimiento, los logros y el trabajo en equipo mientras nos esforzamos por hacer de este nuestro mejor año.

Cuando decimos “cada estudiante”, nos referimos a TODOS los estudiantes. Sin importar su grado escolar, género, origen étnico o capacidad de aprendizaje, queremos que todos y cada uno de nuestros Jackrabbits tengan la oportunidad de alcanzar el éxito.

A veces, los padres nos preguntan qué pueden hacer para ayudar, y sé que muchos de ustedes ya hacen muchísimo. Ya sea proporcionando libros para leer, practicando matemáticas, ayudando a sus hijos a aplicar lo que aprenden en la vida diaria o simplemente animándolos a dar lo mejor de sí mismos, todo esto hace una gran diferencia.

Sabemos que no siempre es fácil equilibrar todas las responsabilidades y agradecemos todo lo que hacen para apoyar a sus hijos y el trabajo que realizamos en Owens. ¡Gracias por su colaboración y por ayudarnos a hacer de este su “Mejor Año Hasta Ahora”!

Owens expectations for behavior are taught using our HOP Matrix: Hardworking, Ownership, Polite. We have a matrix for every area of the building to ensure students know what Jackrabbits HOP means, no matter where they go! Please review the classroom matrix with your child at home, so we can partner together in having consistent expectations for behavior at school.

Las expectativas de Owens en cuanto al comportamiento se enseñan mediante nuestra matriz HOP: Esfuerzo, Responsabilidad y Cortesía. Contamos con una matriz para cada zona del edificio con el fin de garantizar que los alumnos sepan qué significa el acrónimo HOP de Jackrabbits, ¡vayan donde vayan! Por favor, repasa la matriz del aula con tu hijo en casa, para que podamos colaborar y mantener unas expectativas coherentes en cuanto al comportamiento en la escuela.

MORNING ARRIVAL;

We open our front doors at 8:20 AM. If you drop your child off before 8:20 AM, there will be no supervision. Students are allowed to enter the building at 8:20 AM ONLY IF an adult is on duty. Instruction begins at 8:45 AM. Please help us begin instruction on time by allowing your child to ride the school bus or by dropping them off in time to walk to class and be in their seat ready to learn by 8:45 AM. Students who are car riders and walkers/bikers who arrive after 8:45 AM will be counted tardy.

Students who are tardy MUST BE brought into the building by an adult to be signed in.

Las puertas se abren a las 8:20 AM. No habrá supervisión antes de las 8:20 AM. Los estudiantes podrán entrar al edificio a las 8:20 AM SOLAMENTE si hay un adulto supervisando. La hora de instrucción comienza a las 8:45 AM. Por favor ayúdenos a comenzar la hora de clase a tiempo trayendo su hijo(a) a tiempo en coche, autobús o caminando. Estudiantes que vienen en auto, caminando o en bicicleta que lleguen después de las 8:45 AM recibirán una tardanza.

Estudiantes que llegan tarde tendrán que entrar a la oficina acompañados por un adulto.

Owens requires a handwritten note for any change of transportation. The note should state the student's full name, the date, the new mode of transportation, the date for the change to occur, and have the signature of the legal guardian.

There are two ways to change transportation:

1. Send a note in your student's backpack in the morning.
2. Drop off a note at the front desk.

ALL requests for transportation changes must be submitted by 3:00 p.m. to make a change for the same day.

For the safety of our students, no over-the-phone changes can be accepted.

Owens requiere una nota escrita a mano para cualquier cambio en el transporte. La nota debe indicar el nombre completo del estudiante, la fecha, el nuevo medio de transporte, la fecha en que se producirá el cambio y la firma del tutor legal.

Hay dos formas de cambiar el transporte:

Visitors are welcome to have lunch with their students on Wednesdays and Fridays!

Please bring your ID and sign in at the front desk.

SEATING

Seating is limited for visitors. You may only sit with your child at the visitor's table.

Your child's friends must remain with the teacher.

FOOD
Parents can only provide food for their personal child. Other children should eat what their parents sent them or from the cafeteria. Once lunch ends, your child should throw away what they have not eaten. Please do not send them back to class with sodas, etc.

ARRIVAL/DEPARTURE
Please remain in the front office until 5 minutes before your child starts lunch. This helps with congestion at the visitor table. When your child's class leaves the cafeteria, it is time for your child to rejoin his/her class. Please turn in your "visitor sticker" to the front office when you depart.

ASIENTOS

El número de asientos para visitantes es limitado. Solo puede sentarse con su hijo en la mesa de visitantes.

All of Owens Student will receive their cafeteria badge and bus badge free of charge.

If one of these badges get lost or damaged, they need to be replaced for a fee.

All bus riders must have a bus badge!

Parents can pay by sending money with their student.

All students must have a cafeteria badge.
