September 21-27, 2025

Good morning Cannon families,

It's official - Happy Fall Y'all! It's hard to believe we are already entering the seventh week of school!

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Council of PTAs Principals and Presidents Breakfast. This event is a wonderful opportunity for school leaders, PTA presidents, and PTA executive board members from across the district to meet, collaborate, and share ideas. 🤝 It's a key part of how our local PTA connects with the larger network, ensuring our school's voice is heard and we can continue to provide the best for our students.

We also want to give a massive shout-out to all of you! Thanks to your incredible support, we've already reached an impressive 367 PTA members this year! 🎉 This is a huge accomplishment and a testament to the strong community we have. Your membership helps fund essential programs, events, and resources for our school. Due the the increased number of PTA members, thanks to ur CAN PTA Executive Board, all students get to celebrate our membership growth with POPSICLES! Let's keep the momentum going! If you haven't joined yet, it's never too late.

Mrs. Jacquie Beaver is our assigned IT Professional Tech Support at Cannon, and this past week, we took a moment to celebrate her for her dedication and hard work to keep our technology running smoothly at Cannon! She is part of the district's Technology team, which solves our tech issues, secures our data, and ensures our systems are always up and running. Thank you for all your hard work, Mrs. Beaver!

We would like to extend a huge thank you to the Grapevine Masonic Lodge for their generous donation of snacks for our staff. Their contribution will help provide a much-needed energy boost for our hard working staff during the school day. We are so grateful for their support and commitment to our school community!

Congratulations to our 2nd and 3rd grade STEM Habit of Mind Hall of Fame Inductees for Applying Past Knowledge STEM teaching and learning is an instructional approach to learning and development that integrates the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Through STEM education practices, students develop key skills including: problem solving, creativity, and critical analysis. We are PROUD to honor our scholars for exhibiting STEM thinking, and we can't wait to celebrate our next group of inductees this Friday.

If your scholar is selected, your teacher will reach out to you with ceremony details about the specific date and time for each grade's ceremony. We hope you will join us in celebrating our young innovators!

We had very exciting visitors arrive at our school this week! A special delivery of tadpoles came to our 3rd grade science classrooms, and our teachers and students are thrilled to watch them grow. This hands-on experience will allow them to learn all about the life cycle of a frog. We can't wait to see the transformation!

We've got spirit, yes we do! Every Friday, we love seeing our students and staff decked out in their Cub spirit gear. It's wonderful to see so many of you proudly representing our school. Stay tuned for our CAN PTA Spirit store to reopen soon - Let's keep the spirit going!

Parents of Cannon's Gifted & Talented Scholars

This past week, we welcomed a GCISD retired GT ASPIRE teacher to facilitate our GT LEAD classes!

Charlotte Weinstein brings over 20 years of classroom experience to her work with students. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Texas Christian University and a master’s in Gifted Education from Hardin-Simmons University. Charlotte began her career in San Antonio, teaching reading and language arts, and has since taught humanities at both the middle and high school levels. She has served as a consultant for the AP College Board and has presented at the AP Southwestern Forum and the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented. From 2018 to 2025, Charlotte taught ASPIRE at Glenhope Elementary, inspiring and supporting gifted learners. Mrs. Weinstein will also be joining our 3rd grade GT LEADers on their upcoming GT field trip. She is thrilled to join the Cannon staff to support GT LEAD while Mrs. Gable is unable to be with us.
