RootEd Hashtags

A RootEd hashtag gives parents the ability to research a school separate than going to a test-based website like GreatSchools.com or the Charter Mom Discussion Group. We believe that the stories parents and staff have attached a hashtag to, will give parents who are shopping a more well-rounded view of what a school provides. As Superintendent Toscano once said, "If you're looking for a plumber, you're not going to call the plumber to find out how good they are. You're going to get a referral" So the hashtag system is that...a way for parents to share the stories they find endearing about their schools. All RootEd schools have access to a RootEd hashtag. Almost all are #RootEdNameOfSchool ex. #RootEdClark If you have a question on your hashtag, reach out and we will confirm.

The post above is an example of an almost daily occurrence on facebook where a parent is looking for feedback on schools. Sarah and Sofia are RootEd Reps who separately ran across this post and gave their feedback. Sofia doesn't have a child a Churchill yet but because of the hashtags, she can share the information regardless. Also, the hashtags can cross districts as they do in the post above. We often run across parents who are shopping different districts and the hashtags are universal enough to use in those circumstances as well.

Ask parents in your schools to use to the hashtag. The more people bragging about their neighborhood schools, the better for all! Every school has its own personality and the best way to get this across to the community is through storytelling. Adding the RootEd hashtag to the post will allow parents to have access to the stories inside the school...to what makes your school special.

Legislative Updates

Learning to Vote

Legislation Updates

Thanks to everyone who helped get out the vote! Election season is always exciting! Some of our RootEd districts have School Board elections and bond votes coming soon. Please pay attention to these because they are so important and directly affect our kids.

The photo above is students at NEISD PreK Academy learning the power of voting. They were deciding between learning outside or inside that day. There were many examples of teaching students the importance of the vote at our schools. As you can see, you're never too young to start!! #RootEdNEISDPreKAcademy

Rep Spotlight of the Month

Amanda Benker, our RootEd Rep for Oak Crest Elementary in East Central ISD, is active in her school and is a huge cheerleader! She's full of ideas and energy and we're lucky to have her as part of RootEd!

"I love how RootEd exposes all of the amazing and cool things that happen within our school walls. Without proper social media exposure or word of mouth sharing, so many families never get to see what happens on the inside. I've been on the side where you look at ratings or demographics and think the worst and look for other options. But when I became more involved within the school and district, I learned there is so much those ratings don't capture. Parents have so much more power than they give themselves credit for to make a change for the better. They can make such a difference for their students and staff by advocating for all. "
