Reminders & Headlines

URGENT VOLUNTEER REQUEST:
8th Grade Dinner Dance Needs YOUR Help to Happen!
Parents, we urgently need your support to make the 8th Grade Dinner Dance a reality! Without sufficient parent volunteers, this special milestone event for our 8th graders may not be possible.
Traditionally, parents of 7th graders take the lead in planning and hosting this event for the 8th grade class, alongside 8th grade parents. This meaningful tradition allows 7th grade families to "pay it forward" while giving 8th grade families space to enjoy their child's milestone.
Whether you can contribute great ideas, volunteer as a chaperone, help with set-up, or assist in any capacity - your involvement is critical to ensuring this memorable celebration happens for our students.
Please join us for our crucial planning meeting: PTO MEETING on Wednesday, May 14th from 6:00 – 7:00pm In-person meeting in Room 269

Can't attend in person? Please still participate virtually via the Google Meet link:
https://meet.google.com/thn-pwwm-ymr

Your participation will directly determine whether we can provide this important end-of-year celebration for our 8th graders.

IMPORTANT: Chromebook Safety Reminder

Dear Families,
We would like to bring to your attention a concerning technology-related issue that has been impacting school districts across the state. A recent trend circulating on TikTok and other social media platforms encourages individuals to insert metal objects, such as paperclips or pushpins, into computer charging ports. This can cause devices to overheat or catch fire, creating a serious safety hazard.

We are sharing this information proactively to keep our school community safe and informed.

Please speak with your student about the importance of using school-issued technology responsibly. Intentional damage to school-issued devices is a violation of the district’s Student Technology Usage Responsibility guidelines. If such behavior occurs, appropriate disciplinary action may be taken, and families may be held responsible for the cost of repair or replacement.

Thank you for your partnership in helping us maintain a safe and respectful learning environment.

Hello NRMS Families,

Thank you to the families and local businesses that provided meals and recognition of our teachers and nurses during teacher appreciation week and school nurses day. Your support means everything to us.

This week students in all grades completed the Math MCAS assessments. This wraps up MCAS testing for students in Grade 6 and 7 for this year. Our 8th grade students will take two more MCAS assessments: Science Technology & Engineering and Civics. The dates for these assessments are listed in the upcoming events section below. Also listed below is information about updates to our math curriculum for next year.

We are working hard on scheduling students for next year. While we update student schedules in Aspen, the schedule for 2025-2026 school year will not be visible to students or parents/guardians. We will publish the schedules during the summer months.

We are also working on filling open positions for next year. If you know of qualified candidates, please encourage them to join our amazing team. We will have openings for para educators. We also anticipate an opening for a math teacher, a special education teacher, a part-time nurse, and a full-time permanent substitute teacher position. Open positions are listed online at https://nausetschools.schoolspring.com/. Please keep in mind that sometimes we post positions as a formality as we await the completion of licensure requirements for existing staff.

Recently, we have become aware of another TikTok challenge that encourages students to intentionally damage their Chromebooks. Please speak with your child about the dangers of following what they see online. See update/details above. Additionally, please note that the Chromebooks belong to the school and are on loan to your child. The replacement cost for intentional damage is $300. This is more evidence that our students should not have smart phones or be allowed access to social media apps. If we could all come together to help students make good choices by delaying the purchase of smart phones for our children until they are in high school, we will be setting students up for a healthier middle school experience.

Please consider joining the PTO and/or volunteering to help out with end of year events like the 8th grade dinner dance. We really need parent volunteers to make these special events happen. Thanks, as always for your partnership and support for our students and our school.

Have a wonderful weekend.

Math Curriculum Update

After a thoughtful selection process - including piloting two different programs - we’re excited to announce that Nauset will move forward with MidSchoolMath as our core math curriculum in grades 6-8 starting next school year. (8th grade students taking Algebra I will use the high school curriculum, Reveal.) MidSchoolMath was chosen for its strong alignment with math standards, its engaging real-world problem-solving approach, and interactive lessons that keep students actively involved in their learning. The program also offers a blend of digital and hands-on resources designed to support all types of learners. Thank you to everyone who participated in the selection process. We’re excited to see our students grow and thrive with this new curriculum!
