The End of Quarter 1 This Week!
As we approach the end of quarter 1 for this 2026-2027 school year, please plan to join us for student/family conferences next week. We offer them both Wednesday (4pm-8pm) and Thursday (8am-8pm) as planned intentional time to discuss your student's progress inside the classroom. Partnering with parents and families is the best way for us to ensure success for your student.
Within and beyond the classroom we have much to celebrate already in just 9 weeks of school. We have student survey data that is off the charts, requiring us to set higher goals for our 6th-12th grade students as we have already surpassed previously set goals. We have a State-bound, top 5-ranked high school volleyball team. We have a Soils team that competed at State and has now qualified for Nationals. We have nationally qualified chess players heading to Orlando, Florida in December for Nationals. And we have the North Central Regional Teacher of the Year for Oregon in Mr. Nels Swenson. Please see the attached media release, and another big congrats to Mr. Swenson for this very deserving award.
Huskies Explore - We find new ways to learn and grow.
Huskies Pull Together - We work as a team to create community.
Huskies Are Resilient - We take risks to overcome challenges.

Sherman County School is thrilled to be offering a new high school elective course that allows students to hone skills in several design-related career fields. The Design Science class, taught by Elizabeth Petersen, will explore graphic design, marketing, architecture, interior design, culinary arts and event hosting, and ceramic and textile design.
Recently, the Design Science class took a field trip to see home construction from floor plan creation to the final interior design touches. First, the class attended the Vancouver Parade of Homes, touring stunning new homes and learning about the planning and decision points around practical function and stylized appeal in finished products. Next, the class had the opportunity to visit Walk Thru Plans, a business that supports architects, designers, commercial teams, and homeowners to visualize floor plans to scale through the innovative use of integrated projectors. The class was able to project a life-size floor plan and then work through design decisions with actual furniture and appliances on wheels! Students were able to manipulate and test out floor plan ideas in real time. Back in the classroom, students are currently working on creating their own original floor plans using the computer- based tool Planner 5D.
We are excited for the opportunities to develop skills and understandings that can directly translate into multiple career fields, and for students to potentially discover a new passion or aptitude that can impact their futures. If your high school student is interested in taking this class in the future, be sure to encourage them to connect with our guidance counselor for more information.

ππ Cafeteria Connection ππ
Earlier this year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services partnered up to launch the latest edition of the Dietary Guidelines for
Americans. The message is simple: Eat Real Food, which is exemplified in the new, Real Food
Pyramid. By embracing these standards and serving βreal foodβ, we can ensure that students
receive meals that support their health, growth, and academic success. You can learn more
about the new Dietary Guidelines and the Real Food Pyramid at realfood.gov.
