Mr. Covert's Musings

This past week was the best Homecoming Spirit Week that I've ever seen!! The hallway decorations were top notch and the outfits for the spirit days were outstanding. I had so much fun watching our entire our student body come together during the Pep Rally and celebrate each other and our school as a whole. Our MCs for the Pep Rally, Holden and Ian, did an outstanding job hosting the event.

Friday's Homecoming Football Game was a wonderful celebration with our community, and of course it was great to see the football team and cheerleaders both put on oustanding performances. And finally, the dance on Saturday was a great time. Throughout the night, I had parent volunteers, the DJ, and security personnel comment about how awesome and well behaved our students were. We do in fact have some fantastic students!

A big shoutout goes out to the SGA, Ms. Gillispie, Ms. Hanson Edwards, and all of our Class Officers and Advisors for all of their work for Homecoming Spirit week! Also, shoutout to all of our parent volunteers who came out to help with the dance on Saturday night.

It was so much fun to see all of the school spirit on display all week. Below are just a few picture highlights.

Fourth Circuit Civics Contest

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit hosted its annual Civics Contest. In the contest, students shared their perspective on what the founding principles of the Declaration of Independence and the rule of law mean to them. The Court received creative graphic posters and written statements from students in grades 9 through 12 from across the circuit. Our very own, Allison Stalfort was awarded 3rd place and won a $500 prize! You can click the link below to see their entry and learn more about the contest. Congrats Allison!

Fourth Circuit Announces Winners of 2026 Civics Contest

In 2026, our country commemorates 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence—a document which declared that “all men are created equal” and endowed with the “unalienable rights” to “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.” These words sparked a revolution and created a nation grounded in the rule of law. Today, the judiciary works to protect the rights outlined in the Declaration and to ensure that its foundational principles continue to guide our nation.

National FFA Convention Achievements

Join us in celebrating our Meat Evaluation Team & Prepared Public Speaker on their Bronze placings in their respective competitions at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, IN. Congratulations to Emily Michael, Ava Keefer, Kendall Rosier, and Aubrey Short for representing not only Hereford High, but also Maryland FFA!

Also, congratulations to Hereford Alums, Scarlett Heffner and Larissa Medina, for earning their American Degrees, the highest honor within FFA! An achievement that fewer then 1% of FFA members achieve. Fun Fact! ONLY 9 previous Hereford FFA Members have received this honor. The first being in 1969 (John Huff) and last being nearly 10 years ago in 2017 (Kelcey Trewin).

Senior Students - CCBC Direct Admit Program Info

Through the Direct Admit partnership with Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS), the Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) is helping students and families explore opportunities that can make college more accessible, low-cost or free, and connected to their future goals.

CCBC offers a broad range of associate degrees, certificates, and career-focused programs designed to prepare students for today's workforce or provide a strong foundation for continued education. This video highlights some of the many CCBC options available.

Whether your student has a specific career in mind or is still exploring, CCBC provides opportunities to start with a plan and build toward a future.

This fall and winter, CCBC representatives will be visiting BCPS schools to help students and families understand their options, ask questions, and begin developing a college and career plan.

Students can also check their BCPS email for an email from directadmit@ccbcmd.edu. The email has a quick survey to complete that can help guide students towards a program of study at CCBC. To check BCPS email, follow these simple steps:

  1. Open the Google browser; two tabs will pop up automatically. The second tab is the Apps Dashboard (myapps.microsoft.com).
  2. Click on the Apps Dashboard tab.
  3. Find the Outlook tile in the list of apps.
  4. Select the Outlook tile. This will automatically open your BCPS email account.
  5. Look for an email from directadmit@ccbcmd.edu.
  6. Open the Direct Admit email and follow the instructions.
