Cedar Hill Football Earns Emphatic Playoff Opener at Pflugerville Weiss

The Cedar Hill High School Football Team proved that the District of Doom is a cut above the rest.

The Longhorns (6-5), who finished fourth in 6A-11, scored a resounding 62-0 bi-district victory over 6A-12 Tri-Champion Pflugerville Weiss (9-2) on Friday night in Pflugerville.

“We knew if we were healthy enough, we were capable of this,” Cedar Hill first-year head football coach Nick Ward said. “Weiss had some things to say before the game, and we used it as motivation. After the game, our players encouraged them keep their heads up and complimented their team.”

Cedar Hill will face North Forney (9-2) next weekend in the Area Round at 7 p.m. Friday at Hanby Stadium in Mesquite. North Forney defeated Garland, 28-21 in overtime last Friday.

The winner will meet Tomball (7-4) or Conroe Oak Ridge (8-3) in the Regional Quarterfinals next weekend.

Senior quarterback Anthony Edwards finished with four touchdowns. He completed 6 of 10 passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns and also had four carries for 45 yards and two scores.. He has 14 touchdowns through six games this season. Edwards, now 5-1 as a starter, eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark and now has 1,054 total yards this season.

Here's a Dallas Morning News story about Edwards' miraculous comeback.

“If we would have had Anthony all season, this outcome would have been expected by everyone before the game,” Ward said. “Nobody would have been shocked with a 62-0 win.”

Like the rest of the starters, Edwards was on the sidelines before the third quarter ended.

Kymeion Turner was on the receiving end of both touchdown passes. In fact, both of his receptions were touchdowns, for a total of 80 yards, and he now has five touchdown receptions this season.

Dayshun Reese-Williams rushed for a career-high 150 yards. He also scored his fourth touchdown of the season in his second consecutive 100+ yard game. Zhaiylen Scott had three carries for 30 yards and two touchdowns. He now has seven touchdowns on the season.

Ward won his first playoff game as a head coach and improved to 4-1 on the road this season.

Cedar Hill first-year head coach Nick Ward won his playoff head coaching debut, and the Longhorns tripled their win total from last season. The playoff win was the Longhorns’ second win over a district champion this season. In September, they defeated eventual 6A-8 Champion Arlington Martin, 33-2.

Meanwhile, 6A-11 teams – including two defending state champions – went 4-0 in the first round.
