A Little Recess Never Hurts

Mrs. Nordquist's ACT students have been taking advantage of the beautiful weather by enjoying a little after-lunch recess each day this week. Walks, frisbee games, and kickball have kept everyone busy and enjoying a little late summer sunshine!

MEET THE NEW TEACHER

Name: Kaia Bolsoy

Subjects Taught/Position: Personal Finance and Algebra II/ High School Math Teacher
Experience: 2 years as Graduate Teaching Assistant at SDSU in Brookings, SD; 1 year of Student Teaching Experience at Hamlin Education Center

What is one of your favorite things about working in schools? I enjoy the welcoming atmosphere of the school community.

What is your favorite dish from the cafeteria? I haven't had a meal from the cafeteria yet, but the pizza seems to be an appetizing option.

How do you spend your summer breaks? On summer break, I work at my parents' business, a pet-boarding kennel, as well as bake all sorts of delicious treats.

What would students be surprised to find out about you/something interesting about yourself you’d like to share? I am half-Finnish and can understand Finnish as well as speak it to some degree. They also might be surprised that reading was my favorite thing to do when I was in high school, not math! But I absolutely loved my university math classes: they were very difficult but very rewarding.
