Things to Know Things to Know

Elementary Required Winter Gear

With cooler weather arriving, we would like to remind families of the NY Mills Elementary cold weather apparel policy. Students should come dressed for the weather so they can stay warm and enjoy recess safely.

Winter wear should include:

  • Grades JK–4: jackets, hats, gloves, winter boots, and snow pants are required.

  • Grades 5–6: jackets, hats, gloves, and winter boots are required.

If your family could use any help obtaining winter gear, please reach out to Judith Brockway or Kristin Draeger—we have donations of winter clothing available and are happy to help.

Nightly Reading Plan for K-6

Dear Families,

We are excited to continue building strong readers this school year! Beginning Monday, September 14, students in grades K–6 will be expected to read for 20 minutes each night. This expectation will continue throughout the school year.

Reading at home is an important part of helping students become stronger, more confident readers. Just 20 minutes a night can help students build fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and a love of reading.

Please check your child’s folder, planner, or classroom messages for information about how their grade level will be checking in and holding students accountable for nightly reading.

Thank you for partnering with us to make reading a daily habit at home! Twenty minutes a night can make a big difference!
