Dear Holy Cross Community,

Happy Friday!

It has been a fantastic week of celebrations! We joined the Church in prayer and excitement at the election of Pope Leo XIV. We celebrated our amazing teachers and staff, who were showered with love and appreciation by our vibrant Holy Cross community. We are deeply grateful.

We also celebrated the gift of music at our Spring Concert last night—thank you to everyone who attended and supported our students.

A big congratulations to our Hornet Mathletes who proudly represented Holy Cross at the Mathletics final competition yesterday. All 12 Johnson County Catholic Schools came together and competed for the winning titles. Holy Cross did an exceptional job! Please join me in congratulating all students, and especially those who placed as follows:

  • Grade 3 earned 1st place

  • Grade 4 students tied for 3rd place at the competition, placing 4th overall

  • Grade 6 placed 3rd overall

We are incredibly proud of all our students for their hard work, determination, and growth in math this year!

It’s hard to believe, but next week marks the last full week of classes for the school year. A few reminders as we approach the finish line:

  • We will celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2025 at our Graduation Mass and ceremony on May 15. We send them off with love and prayers as they begin their next chapter—Holy Cross will always be their home.
  • The last day of school will be Tuesday, May 20, and it will be a half day. We will begin the day with Mass and recognitions, and conclude with our Talent Show.
  • K-7 students will have their field day on Monday, May 19—a reminder that lunch will not be served, so all students need to bring a sack lunch on that day.

Please find updates for the final seven days of school below. Thank you for walking this joyful journey with us!

On behalf of the faculty and staff, we wish all mothers and mother figures a joyful and blessed Mother’s Day! May your special day be filled with love, peace, and the deep gratitude you so richly deserve.

With appreciation and best wishes,

Paola V. Clark, Ed.D.

Principal

Virtuous Formation Program/Education in Virtue Virtuous Formation Program/Education in Virtue

Holy Cross has adopted a School-Wide Positive Behavior Support System called the Be Holy Cross Virtuous Behavior Formation. Expectations are clearly defined under the “Be Holy Cross” framework. Students are expected to conduct themselves in keeping with the expectations set in this framework to be caring, responsible, obedient, and successful stewards. Individual, classroom, and school-wide expectations will be taught at the beginning of the school year and emphasized at various times. Students will be acknowledged for positive behaviors. This aligns with our annual theme: In a world where you can be anything...Be Holy Cross.

Education in Virtue is the Archdiocesan Catholic Social-Emotional Learning program, a key component of our Virtuous Formation Program. It provides a curriculum and resources developed by the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, based on St. Thomas Aquinas’ teachings on the virtues and gifts of the Holy Spirit. These resources provide a framework for helping people of all ages understand how to live more virtuously.

At Holy Cross, we highlight a virtue each month that is woven organically into lessons and our daily school life. These virtues are used in our announcements to guide our morning prayer, selection of the Saint of the Month, activities for our Faith Families, and classroom lessons. The virtue of May is Foresight.

The Saint of the month is St. Angela Merici.
