Principal's Message
Hello Hawk Parents!
I want to take this opportunity to thank all our Hawktastic parents! We have had an amazing start to our school year and we are now half way. We are also entering our state testing season. Thank you for your continued support as we work to get our Scholars achieving at high levels. As you know, getting scholars to the Approaches level is no longer our goal. Our goal is to get ALL our Scholars to Meets and Masters levels and having our youngest scholars reading and doing math on grade level. Help support our goal by sending your child to tutoring and Friday Blitz if they are invited.
Below you will be to find our upcoming testing dates and when we return from Spring Break we will have TELPAS state testing and finally STAAR testing in April. Please try to schedule all doctor appointments around the testing dates.
Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact me. My email is rtaylo@sisd.net. My office number is 937-4602.
Thank you!
Mrs. Taylor

Tutoring
How Does Tutoring Help Our Students?
Tutoring can help strengthen subject comprehension, boost confidence, and build important learning skills. Tutoring gives students individualized attention that they don’t get in a crowded classroom. This helps children who struggle to keep up, as well as those who aren’t challenged enough. Summer and Intersession tutoring helps to keep students on track.
What are the benefits of Tutoring?
- One-on-one attention
- Improves academic performance.
- Improves attitude towards learning and school.
- Encourages self-paced and self-directed learning.
- Improves self-esteem and confidence.
- Improves work and study habits.
- Provides a positive workspace.
- Encourages independence and responsibility.
- Helps overcome learning obstacles.
- Encourages the freedom to ask questions.
- Improves social and behavioral skills.
- Increases ability to manage one’s learning.
- Prepares your child for college and university.

School Hours
This is a reminder that the school day runs from 7:30 - 3:15. Breakfast in the classroom is served from 7:30 - 7:45. Scholars arriving after 7:45 will miss out on breakfast as classroom instruction begins promptly at 7:45. Scholars who arrive at 7:45 or later will have to stop by the office to pick up a tardy pass. Scholars will also have to serve Lunch Detention when they are late. Please help us by having your child arrive at school by 7:30.
Attendance Matters
We continue to monitor attendance for all grade levels at Jane Hambric School. Any student with 10 or more absences in year long courses, regardless of excused or unexcused, will need to have an attendance contract signed by a parent. Middle school semester courses with 3 absences will receive a contract. Please expect a call from an administrator to set up the meeting.
We will only excuse 6 absences this semester with a parent note. Notes should be submitted same day or the next day via attendancejanehambric@sisd.net.
Students with excessive absences will be expected to attend all tutoring offered to include Friday Blitz, weekly tutoring, and Intersession.
Please be cognizant of avoiding extended vacations where your child will be absent. You have access to the yearly calendar by the summer to plan around your child’s education. We want them here every day they are healthy as we strive to meet our commitment of educating the children of our wonderful Jane Hambric community!

Last All-Star Celebration of 2023!
The Nest celebrated the last All-Stars of 2023! Together with families, we celebrated those Hawks who were selected by their teachers as All-Star students. We will have our next celebration at the end of this month. Please remind your child that an All-Star student is one who demonstrates trustworthiness, empathy, accountability, and mindfulness day in and day out here at school. We look forward to celebrating our next group of All-Stars!
Social Emotional Learning at The Nest
Monday mornings at The Nest are dedicated to the social/emotional education of your child. Students are receiving support through ReThink Ed classroom lessons that help foster and develop healthy social/emotional wellbeing for all students. Across the school Monda SEL lessons will focus on Social Skills and Awareness of self.
This month school counselors have been giving lessons to all Hawks on topics such as building a positive school culture, healthy relationships and self-help/self-care.
Care Solace Services
The Socorro Independent School District has partnered with Care Solace, an organization determined to calm the chaos of mental health care coordination, to expand access to community mental health and substance use treatment providers for students, staff, and their families. If you would like more information on these services for your child or yourself, please communicate with one of us and we will gladly provide you with more information.
Kindness Week is Coming to The Nest
Next month we will be celebrating Kindness month at The Nest. We encourage everyone to help spread kindness. Information on more activities to come!
