Publication Celebration
Thank you all for supporting the third-grade authors during our publication celebration! The students were so proud of their work. It was a great way to build excitement and enthusiasm for writing and we look forward to seeing how much the kids grow as writers this year. Here are a few snapshots from the event...
Life Cycle Projects
Last week students began learning about plant and animal life cycles. We started by comparing the life cycle of a grasshopper to that of a butterfly. We took some time discussing the similarities and differences between the two. Later, each student chose an animal to study. They have been tasked with creating a model or representation of that that animal's unique life cycle. Once they complete the written portion of the project, they will create a visual model to support their accompany their writing. The students are very engaged in this work. We will have some projects to share with you soon!
Mathematics
We just wrapped up a unit on addition and subtraction strategies and will begin focusing on multiplication and division strategies. We will be working with visual and 3D models, repeated addition, and number lines to explore the concept of multiplication. Attached you will find the family letter that explains the unit.
🎃 Writing: Haunted Houses for Sale! 🎃
In the coming weeks, students will start a persuasive writing project. Their task will be to try and sell a "haunted house". They will learn more about using sensory details and descriptive language to persuade readers. Stay tuned to see if you're interested in investing in some real estate!
Guest Reader 📚
Last week we had a special visitor come and read to the class. My mother-in-law, Candance, has been very supportive of me and our classroom. She made all of the covers for the seats we enjoy sitting on, has donated many many books, and came in over the summer to help me set up the space. I am so grateful to her and it was nice for the kids to get to meet the person I have told them so much about. She read them the book, Frederick by Leo Leonni. This led to a nice discussion about the importance of art and how everyone can contribute to a community in their own way. Thank you to Candace for your time! We hope you will return again soon!
