January 2026 Newsletter
Dear Cody Middle School Community,
Happy New Year! I hope you all enjoyed your Christmas and Winter Break. The start of a new year brings renewed energy, and I am excited for what lies ahead at Cody Middle School. As we return, we also recognize that we have one week remaining to finish Semester One strong, with the semester officially ending on Friday, January 9. This final week matters! I encourage all students to stay focused, complete missing or outstanding work, and communicate with teachers if support is needed.
I also want to be transparent with our families as we approach the end of the semester. Students who fail multiple core classes may be required to attend summer school to recover credit and remain on track academically. Our goal is to avoid any surprises and ensure families are well informed. Teachers and counselors are available to help students understand their progress and next steps.
Over the break, I had the opportunity to closely analyze our Student Trust Survey results from prior to the Winter Break, and I want to share some incredibly encouraging feedback from our students. Across three years of data, students consistently report high levels of trust in both their teachers and school leadership. Students describe their teachers as having high expectations, being strong instructors, and helping them learn a great deal. They also recognize that teachers are ready to help and that expectations are clear and consistent.
Students report similarly positive experiences with school leadership. Year after year, students have rated our leadership team very highly for being caring, supportive, and doing their jobs well. Just as importantly, the vast majority of students report that they feel cared for by the adults in our building. These results affirm that Cody Middle School continues to be a place where learning and relationships go hand in hand. We are proud of this student feedback and remain committed to building on these strengths while continuing to grow.
A few important items to have on your radar as we begin the second half of the year:
- The Second Semester Enrichment Form will be sent out this week. Please be sure to review the options and complete the sign-up so students can be placed appropriately.
- Our Winter Sports season begins this week, and we are excited to see students competing and representing CMS.
- Winter WYTOPP Assessments will take place this month and into early February. These assessments provide important information about student learning and growth.
- Our Red Lodge Outdoor Activity Days, sponsored by our Physical Education Department, will take place toward the end of the month. More information will be shared soon, and we appreciate our PE staff for providing these unique experiences for students.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support. It is truly a privilege to serve as the Principal of Cody Middle School. I look forward to a strong finish to Semester One and an exciting, productive start to Semester Two.

Required Student ID
If your student rides any bus, please make sure they have their Student ID. PCSD6 Transportation will begin strictly enforcing the use of Student IDs on all buses, including in-town field trips. PCSD6 wants to make sure all students are safe and accounted for as well as be able to identify when and where they get on and off the bus. If your student requires a new Student ID, please let the Cody Middle School Front Office know and we will provide you with a replacement card form that you can return to us along with a $5 ID replacement fee. If you have questions, please call the PCSD6 Transportation Department at 307-587-2851.
