Community Letter 10/20/26
October 20, 2026
Dear Holliston Students and Families,
As we transition from October into November, our schools are vibrant with energy, enthusiasm, and learning. It is a wonderful time of year across Holliston, filled with engaging events and inspiring moments that bring our school community together. Below are a few important announcements and updates to share with you:
SEPAC Fundraising Events:
Our wonderful Holliston Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) supports families of students with disabilities by offering guidance, resources, and workshops, while advising the school district on special education and safety. They are organizing two upcoming fundraising events:
Trunk or Treat: Saturday, October 24, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Miller/Placentino parking lots (6:00–6:30 PM will be sensory-friendly). Dress up in your favorite costume and enjoy creatively decorated car trunks with candy, toys, and games! Admission is $5 per person, with a $25 family cap.
Unified vs. Varsity Basketball Fundraiser: Wednesday, November 12, at 6:00 PM in the High School Fieldhouse. Come cheer on the Unified Basketball Team and celebrate the conclusion of their season! Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.
MLL Night & Establishing an EL PAC:
With our growing community of multilingual students, Holliston Public Schools is proud to launch our English Learner Parent Advisory Council (EL PAC) this school year! The EL PAC offers parents and guardians a meaningful opportunity to advise district leadership, share feedback on language programs, and connect with other multilingual families. Our first meeting will take place in December via Zoom. All families are welcome to attend regardless of English learner status.
We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the 80+ students and family members who joined us last week for our Multilingual Learner Welcome Event! It was wonderful introducing our district EL teaching team and Dr. Karen Bourn, Director of Teaching & Learning, as well as sharing our introductory presentation in En Español and Em Português.
We already have several wonderful parent volunteers, but we are seeking a few more families to round out our council. If you would like to participate or serve as a parent leader, please contact Dr. Karen Bourn at BournK@holliston.k12.ma.us.
Holliston High School Opportunities Night:
Grade 8 and HHS families, as you begin planning for the upcoming school year, we invite you to join us for Opportunities Night on Wednesday, October 28, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM in the HHS Auditorium. Come meet teachers, students, counselors, and administrators, and learn more about our academic programs, pathways, extracurricular activities, and options for HHS students.
Wellness Committee:
We are seeking interested students, parents, and community members to serve on the district’s Wellness Committee. The committee will meet in person or virtually across six Fridays during the school year from 10:30 to 11:30 AM (during the DSB block to accommodate students). This year, our focus will be evaluating past efforts and determining how wellness can best be integrated into our next District Strategic Plan. If you are interested in participating, please send a brief statement of interest to Dr. Carter at carterk@holliston.k12.ma.us.
Substitute Teachers Needed:
Thank you for your continued partnership and support in making Holliston Public Schools a wonderful place for our students to grow and thrive. As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or feedback. Wishing you all a fantastic fall season!
Gratefully,
Dr. J. Kimo Carter, Superintendent
