This two-day professional learning series is designed for educators, literacy coaches, administrators, and instructional leaders who support English Learners (ELs).

Participants will deepen their understanding of Public Act 146, the K-12 Literacy and Dyslexia law, exploring:

  • its legal requirements
  • the interplay between second-language acquisition and dyslexia
  • effective screening
  • effective assessment practices
  • evidence-based, equity-centered instructional strategies aligned with structured literacy

Participants will leave the series with a roadmap for building or strengthening systems that fulfill both the letter and spirit of the law — supporting ELs with both language development and reading intervention in a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS). This professional learning session/series content is in alignment with Michigan's K-12 literacy and dyslexia legislation (PA 146) related to English Learners. Technical Assistance with Implementing requirements of PA 146 will be available to district teams participating in the series.
