Welcome!
Welcome
Dear Nash Families and community members,
We welcome you all to the new academic year at Thomas V. Nash Jr. Primary School. As the Principal of this amazing learning community, I am thrilled to have you all here and look forward to an exciting and fruitful year ahead.
As we reflect on our last school year's many achievements and milestones, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for your support and dedication to our school community. Your involvement, encouragement, and active participation in your student's learning have played a pivotal role in shaping our school culture where students can thrive, learn and grow. From the start of school all the way to the end, we continued to push for academic excellence, social/emotional successes, and improvements within our school community.
As the Nash principal, I am committed to providing our students with a comprehensive education that will equip them with the skills they need to succeed in their future endeavors. We have a great team of highly qualified and dedicated staff passionate about imparting knowledge and helping students reach their full potential. As a team, we will continue to strengthen our school’s culture and community and ensure that we are meeting the needs of every student. To do this, we will continue to enhance our PBIS (positive behavior intervention and support) practices and bring in new ideas around Social Emotional Learning through the Second Step program. As a staff, we will continue to collaborate and analyze our student’s performance to tailor the instructional focus, to provide continual growth for each student. Our goal is to create an environment where students feel a sense of belonging, embrace opportunities that come their way, challenge themselves, and strive for excellence in all that they do. I am confident that with their hard work and your support, the students at Nash will achieve great things.
I’m pleased to announce that Mrs. Francesca McDevitt will be our Assistant Principal this year. Mrs. McDevitt has been in education for the past 24 years. She comes to Weymouth with experience working in the Brockton Public Schools as a classroom teacher, STEM Coach, and Acting Assistant Principal. This experience will allow her to contribute to the amazing learning environment already happening at Nash Elementary School.
To view your child’s classroom teacher (Grades K-5) this year, please log on to the Aspen portal on or after August 25th. Our EdTech department recently sent your child’s portal log-in information, and I also included instructions to support you with this process linked here.
Kindergarten families, Your first day of school is September 7th. If your Kindergarten student has not been screened, this will occur on September 5th and orientation will be held on September 6th. Mrs. Oliva will contact you to schedule a screening and will send out an email with times for your orientation.
Parent Council News
Our Nash Parent Council is truly amazing and always has the students of Nash at the forefront of every decision. I strongly encourage you to get involved, attend some meetings, and positively impact
Nash School!
Our parent council has been working all summer to seccure the Cultural Arts Council that has continued to fund our enrichment assemblies.
These assemblies take various forms, such as theatrical performances, interactive workshops, motivational speakers, and artistic presentations that engage students and provide them with valuable insights and experiences.
Thomas V. Nash School would like to thank The Mass Cultural Council for providing us with four assemblies during the 2022-23 school year.
Here is a recap of last years Mass cultural Arts Council sponsored assemblies:
On 10/5/22, the students and staff were able to watch and participate in an interactive laser show in the gym given by Prismatic Magic Laser Show. We chose the laser show titled kindness quest that explores community and friendship. The students and staff thoroughly enjoyed this show, and we plan to have another show with the same company this year with a different theme.
On 12/14/22, the students and staff were able to watch a cute show called Holidays Around the World by Bright Star Theater. There was a lot of laughter heard at this assembly as the 2 performers took us to different areas of the world to show us how different places and cultures celebrate holidays. The 2 performers kept the performance funny while also educational.
On 2/3/22, the students and staff were able to watch an amazing performance by Young Audiences Arts for Learning. The performance we chose was called Afro Brazilian Martial Arts, Music, and Dance ensemble. The performance involved drumming, colorful costumes, acrobatics, Portuguese language, live music, and dance. Students were able to get up and try some dance moves.
On 5/5/23, Sheryl Faye came back to Nash to perform Ruth Bader Ginsberg I dissent. This show was amazing, inspirational, and informative. Sheryl did a wonderful job portraying RBG and sending the message that hard work and determination does pay off. I think the staff enjoyed this as much as the students.
All assemblies were performed in the gym/cafeteria for all grades. We chose to have the assemblies at the end of the day after all lunches had finished. We look forward to finding new programs for the upcoming school year. We appreciate the Mass Cultural Council for their generous grant for these assemblies.
