Principal's Message

Greetings KP Community,

As we settle into the first month of the school year, students are becoming more comfortable with their schedules, classes, and daily routines. This is also the perfect time for students to begin exploring all that KP has to offer beyond their individual classes. Our theme this year, “Find Your KP,” is about encouraging every student to discover the people, programs, activities, and opportunities that can help make their high school experience meaningful.

Last week, students had the opportunity to explore more than 45 clubs, athletic programs, organizations, and academic pathways during our schoolwide Activity Fair. High school is about much more than grades and attendance, and we want students to take an active role in shaping their experience at KP. Whether that means joining a club, trying something new, exploring an academic or career pathway, participating in athletics, or finding another way to become involved, we hope every student finds something at KP that sparks an interest, builds a connection, or gives them a greater sense of belonging.

Dismissal Reminders Dismissal Reminders

Dismissals must be done in person at the Main Office or by Email

If you need to dismiss your student during the school day you must either come into the office and sign them out in person or you can email hsattendance@kingphilip.org. Dismissals are not done over the phone. If at all possible, please email at the beginning of the school day. Only excused absences allow students to make up missed work. The KPRHS Student Handbook lists what constitutes an excused absence.

Please note: Juniors do not have 'senior' privileges and are not allowed to leave during the school day. The consequence for any student leaving school without permission is a Saturday Detention for the first offense. Also "Students misusing their parking privileges by leaving school grounds before the end of the school day may be subject to having their parking privileges revoked."

Attendance Reminders Attendance Reminders

As we continue our strong focus on attendance this year, I want to thank our students, families and faculty for the noticeable improvement we saw last year. Being present in school each day matters deeply - for academic progress, for building meaningful relationships, and for strengthening our sense of community. Research is clear that consistent school attendance is one of the strongest predictors of academic success, social engagement, and on-time graduation, and we appreciate the collective effort to ensure students are here and ready to learn.

To support this ongoing work, we want to remind everyone of some of the attendance codes that are entered into Infinite Campus:

  • AE - Absent Excused

(parent/guardian has provided documentation for an excused absence for one of the (12) reasons outlined on page #26 of the handbook)

  • AV - Absence Verified

(used in instances when parent/guardian has provided a clear and verifiable reason for the absence, such as a one-to-two day illness that does not meet the criteria for AE as a doctor's appointment may not have been scheduled for a one-day illness)

  • AN - Absence Notified. AN means a parent/guardian has notified the school that a student will be absent, but the absence does not meet the criteria to be excused (i.e. Vacation). AN absences are not eligible for make-up work, similar to unexcused absences.

Both AE and AV allow students to make up work within the allotted timeframe outlined in the Student Handbook. The code of AN ensures that we are accurately distinguishing between absences that qualify for make-up work and those that do not.

We continue to emphasize that every day in school counts. Missing even a few days each month can impact learning, confidence and long-term outcomes for students. In-person learning provides consistent instruction, opportunities to connect with peers and adults, and the routines that help students feel grounded and engaged. We want every student to experience that sense of belonging, and daily attendance plays a crucial role.

Action NEEDED: Consent for Google Additional Services Action NEEDED: Consent for Google Additional Services

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As part of our commitment to providing a rich and engaging learning environment, King Philip Regional utilizes Google Workspace for Education. This platform offers valuable tools that support student learning, collaboration, and communication. Google has separated its consent for "additional services" from its "core services".

Why we are seeking your consent:

While core Google Workspace services are covered under our existing agreement, these additional services require parental consent for students under the age of 18, as they may collect and use student data in ways that are slightly different from core services. We want to ensure transparency and allow you to make an informed decision regarding your child's data.

What this means for your child:

If you grant consent, your child will continue to have access to the additional educational tools, enriching their learning experience. These services will be used under teacher supervision and for educational purposes only. We will continue to prioritize student privacy and adhere to all applicable data protection regulations.

What we need from you:

Please fill out the following Google Form:

King Philip: Consent for Google Additional Services

We believe that these additional Google services can significantly enhance your child's learning experience, but we respect your right to make an informed decision.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions.

Sincerely,

Michael Bois

Nutrition Services Nutrition Services

File: EFD - SCHOOL NUTRITION PROGRAM CHARGE POLICY

The School Committee is committed to providing students with healthy, nutritious meals each

day so they can focus on school work, while also maintaining the financial integrity of meal

programs. and minimizing any impact on students with charges for a la carte purchases.

The District provides free meals to all students (one free meal per meal service

period.). However, unpaid charges for additional meals, or a la carte items place a large financial

burden on the school district, as food services is a self-supporting entity within the district. The

purpose of this policy is to ensure compliance with federal reporting requirements of the USDA

Child Nutrition Program, as well as provide oversight and accountability for the collection of

outstanding student balances.
