Principal Lima's Family Newsletter

Happy Friday, Falcon Families!
What a fun and exciting week it has been at DES! Our Falcons enjoyed a week filled with learning, laughter, and plenty of fall and Halloween fun! From continued fire safety lessons with our youngest learners to festive classroom activities, pumpkin investigations, creative projects, and Halloween celebrations, there was excitement throughout the building!
It was wonderful to see our students participating in so many engaging, hands-on learning experiences while making special memories with their classmates and teachers. The creativity, enthusiasm, and smiles throughout the school made this week extra special! A big thank you to our amazing staff and families for helping make these activities and celebrations so memorable for our students.
As we wrap up October, we look forward to all the wonderful learning and activities November will bring. We are so proud of our Falcons and the kindness, school spirit, and excitement for learning they show each day!
We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday as we begin November!
Reminder: There will be no school on Tuesday, November 3, due to a districtwide Professional Development Day for staff.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Updates from the Week
ACE Clubs Updates:
Sports group playing kick ball
Board games from the past two weeks. Board games is so fun that Ms. Rubano even came to play!
Math Takes Flight with Mr. Trocchio!
Students in Room 23 have been exploring multiplication and division using beaded number lines! This hands-on math tool has helped students make important connections between multiplication and division and discover how the two operations are related. It was exciting to see those “light bulb moments” as students made these connections and deepened their understanding!
What makes this tool even more special is its versatility! Beaded number lines can be used across all grade levels to support addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and even decimals.
Mrs. Lima even joined in on the fun and became a student for the day! Our Room 23 mathematicians took on the role of teachers, showing her how to use the beaded number line to solve multiplication and division problems and explain the relationship between the two operations.
What a great example of hands-on learning, collaboration, and our Falcons soaring to success in math!
Mrs. Perry's Pumpkin Investigation
Our young scientists had a great time exploring pumpkins this week! Students made careful observations, recorded their findings in their science journals, and explored different ways to measure pumpkins. This fun, hands-on activity encouraged curiosity, critical thinking, and teamwork while bringing science and math to life!

Fire Safety Fun with the Dighton Fire Department! 🚒🔥
Our first graders had a great time learning about fire safety this morning with the Dighton Fire Department! Students learned about the importance of working smoke detectors and how to safely exit a building during a fire by staying low and crawling under the smoke.
This hands-on learning experience helped our students better understand how to stay safe in an emergency. A big thank you to the Dighton Fire Department for taking the time to teach our young Falcons these important lifesaving skills!

🎃 Our First Unified Monthly Activity! 🎨
Tuesday, we kicked off our first Unified monthly activity with a fun and simple pumpkin painting project! Our students had the opportunity to get creative, work alongside their peers, and begin building meaningful connections.
These activities are all about fostering friendships, strengthening peer relationships, and creating a foundation for future opportunities to learn, grow, and have fun together!
We’re excited to see these friendships blossom throughout the year!
Notification of Annual Health Screenings
Dear Parent/Guardian,
The Dighton – Rehoboth School Health Services program supports student academic success by promoting health in the school setting. One way that we provide care for your child is by performing the health screenings as mandated by the State of Massachusetts. Screenings are not a diagnostic tool, but rather a means of identifying potential problems that can affect a child’s performance in school. The following health screenings will start in October and will continue throughout the school year:
Vision –Grades Pre K - 4th grade
Hearing – Grades Pre K- 3rd grade
Growth and Development - (height and weight) – Grades 1 and 4
If your child is tested, and the results are not in the “normal” range for the vision and hearing screen, you will be notified by letter. If you receive a letter, it is recommended that you take your child to a doctor or healthcare provider for a comprehensive evaluation.
If you want your child to participate in the screenings for his/her grade, no further action is required.
If you do not want your child to participate in any or all of the screenings, please send a letter to the school nurse. This request must be written each year and be specific to which screening(s) you would like your child to opt out of participating.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call the school nurse, Mrs. Alberto,
Stuffy Sleepover
Calling all cuddly friends of our students in K-2! Bring your favorite stuffed animal to the library from 4:30-6:30 on Thursday 11/19 for a very special sleepover adventure with Mrs. G!
Drop off your stuffie and let the nighttime fun begin! While the library is closed, our furry friends will go on their own little adventures, explore the library, read stories, and have a night full of fun.
Your Stuffie Friend will be returned on Friday 11/20, and you'll discover all the silly things they got up to while you were away! You might even get to see photos of their overnight adventures!
