Olathe Public Schools Community,

It’s hard to believe the school year ends tomorrow! As we finish another great year in our district, I want to thank our families, staff and community members for the support you have given our students and our schools every day. This time of year is always special as we celebrate milestones, recognize accomplishments and look ahead to what’s next.

From honoring retirees and celebrating the Class of 2026 to recognizing students, staff and community partners at our Board of Education meeting, there is so much to be proud of across our district. We’ve also included a big update from our Facility Alignment Task Force and what’s next regarding future school consolidations. Finally, find information about FREE summer meals provided by our team at Café 233.

I hope the weeks ahead bring your family time to relax, recharge and enjoy summer together. Thank you for being such an important part of Olathe Public Schools and for the trust you place in us each day. We will see you in August.

Your very proud superintendent,
Dr. Brent Yeager

OPS Retirement 2026

As another school year wraps up, we want to recognize and celebrate the incredible employees who are retiring from Olathe Public Schools. Each year, the district hosts a special dinner to honor these individuals for their years of commitment, hard work, and service to education. From classrooms to support services and every role in between, each retiree has made a meaningful difference in the lives of students and staff across our district. Together, they represent hundreds of years of dedicated service, and their contributions will leave a lasting legacy. We thank them for all they have given to Olathe Public Schools and wish them the very best in retirement. Congratulations to all of our retirees!

School Consolidations: Facility Alignment Task Force Update & Next Steps School Consolidations: Facility Alignment Task Force Update & Next Steps

Task force members look over spreadsheets of enrollment data

Last week, the Facility Alignment Task Force held its final of three meetings. As a reminder, the task force included one staff member and one parent representative from each school, ensuring voices from across the district were part of the conversation and planning process of school consolidation. The task force's primary focus was to learn about district enrollment and forecasting data and use the knowledge they acquired to help inform a recommendation on the number of buildings the district needs to best align with student enrollment.

In their final meeting, the task force broke into groups to review data and make a recommendation on the number of elementary and middle schools that best fit enrollment projections moving forward. Next, district leaders will present the task force's recommendations to the Board of Education at the June board meeting. Following that presentation, a smaller steering committee made up of task force members will convene this summer to take a deeper look at the recommendations and begin the work of determining which schools will ultimately be consolidated.

One of the participants shared, "Thanks for the opportunity to learn more. While these discussions are hard to have I am reassured that it will be handled as best as it can be."

We want to sincerely thank all of the task force members for their time and thoughtful feedback throughout this process. We recognize this has not been an easy topic to discuss, but we deeply appreciate the willingness of members to have honest conversations about the need for the district to align for the future. The feedback and perspectives shared by the group have been invaluable and will play an important role in guiding future decision-making.

There will be more information to come in the fall. If you'd like to stay engaged throughout this process, please visit our School Alignment webpage on the district website.

HAVE A GREAT SUMMER! HAVE A GREAT SUMMER!
