FamiLEE Spotlight

Congratulations to our FamiLEE spotlights this week!

Congratulations to Ms. Perez, Ms. Ginder, and Ms. Quattlebaum, who worked so hard for weeks to bring the Hispanic Heritage Festival to life! They stayed after school to practice and organize the event, and they helped students work on their projects to spotlight their heritage. Ms. Perez, Ms. Ginder, and Ms. Q provided the opportunity for our students to feel seen and valued. The students are excited for the festival. I cannot wait to see their hard work on display. When you see them, please congratulate them and thank them for their hard work.

Congratulations to Mr. Morrow as well! It is great seeing the adults and students loving him celebrating all the dress up days. He works hard to make sure math is fun and relevant to life skills while holding all students accountable. Mr. Morrow's co-workers describe him as focused on student learning, dedicated to his students and supporting the whole child, and fun to be around. Some of his students had him last year in 9th grade and again this year. They say he has high expectations he wants all students to meet. He does a lot of different things in his lessons which keeps things interesting. Thank you, Mr. Morrow, for your dedication and love to the FamiLEE!

Shout-Outs Shout-Outs

  • Shout out to Freshman of the Week LeAmber Douglas. LeAmber comes to us from Challenger Middle School. She is in the visual arts magnet here at Lee High. In her spare time she likes to listen to music, spend time with friends, and work on her art. When she graduates from high school, she wants to go to college and major in fashion design.
  • Shout out to Freshman of the Week Harmoni Groce. Harmoni comes to us from Auburn Junior High School. She is in the vocal magnet. In her spare time she likes to read, journal, and listen to music. When she graduates from high school she would like to go into cosmetology. Her favorite teacher at Lee is Mrs. Cooper because she is nice and her class is interesting.
  • Shout out to the teachers and students who participated in our Hispanic Heritage Festival. They did an amazing job showcasing their heritage. The school enjoyed celebrating with them.

Magnet Minute Magnet Minute

  • Congratulations to two of our Printmaking II students who placed in the Rosie Douglas Hispanic Heritage Month Contest! Kasey Little won 1st place and Saniya Darby won 3rd. Their lovely artwork is pictured below and will be on display at the Huntsville Public Library beginning September 26th.

  • The Photography magnet collaborated with the Creative Writing magnet to create digital collages based on poems written by students. Each photography student was given a poem to interpret. Then they created a collage that included photos they captured and magazine clippings.

  • Authors from the Creative Writing magnet also visited Williams Middle for a magnet recruitment last week. The middle school students were engaged, and many chose to share their writings with Lee's authors!

  • The Film and Video magnet's Media Liaison Program has students embedded with Football, Girls Basketball, PR, Dance, Theatre, Technical Theatre, Band, Orchestra, and other programs to produce video and social media content, strengthening school visibility.

  • Their Social Media & Podcasting class has active Instagram pages for Film & Video and the Welcome to the Leegion podcast. A new podcast season launches in October and will be available on all major platforms.

  • Shout out to Film and Video magnet senior Evie Wilbourne, whose film was selected for the Sidewalk Film Festival (Birmingham) and recognized for outstanding student filmmaking. Additional student films are being submitted to the George Lindsey Film Festival (Florence). Selected films from Sidewalk Film Festival and our 2025 Film Festival will be available on YouTube later this year. Run can be viewed now here.

  • Dancers are continuing with their choreography group projects. The students will audition these pieces on Friday, Oct. 3, for possible placement in the fall dance concert, “Ignite the Fire”.

  • On Friday, Sept. 26, the Dance magnet also traveled to AAA to work with the 4th and 5th grade dance students. Some 8th graders were in the classes as well. They will be going back to AAA Middle School in October after Fall Break.

  • Our Fall Magnet Festival, a free public event showcasing student performances and film projects with hands-on activities for families, will be Thursday, October 18th. Please see the flyer below for more information and make plans to join us!

  • The Theatre Performance and Technical Theatre magnets are still hard at work on their fall show! Don't forget to purchase tickets for the public performances of A Monster Calls, which will be October 23rd, 24th & 25th. See the flyer below for the QR code!

  • Fall magnet applications open October 17th! Check out the flyer below for more information on our conservatories and areas of study.

Announcements Announcements

  • The LHS soccer teams are having a yard sale on Saturday, Oct. 25th. If you'd like to donate items, please email Coach Matzkind at Kurtis.Matzkind@hsv-k12.org.

  • New HCS Wireless Communication Device Policy: We want to inform you about an important update to our school policies in response to a new state law. On May 14, 2025, Governor Kay Ivey signed the FOCUS Act (Freeing Our Classrooms of Unnecessary Screens for Safety) into law. This law, which went into effect July 1, 2025, requires public schools across Alabama to limit student use of wireless communication devices during the instructional day to improve focus, safety, and engagement. In compliance with this law, Huntsville City Schools will implement a district-wide Wireless Communication Device (WCD) Policy beginning Fall 2025. Please click here to review the new HCS Wireless Communication Device policy.

Attendance Attendance

We want your child to be in school with us every day! Attendance is the most important factor in your child's academic success. We can't teach children who aren't at school. We have a goal of 95% this year. Please help us reach this goal by ensuring your child is here every day. If you child has to be out, please send excuses to LHS.attendance@hsv-k12.org.
