THE LIONS DENAlbert Schweitzer Newsletter June 2025

Dear Albert Schweitzer community,

The end of the school year is always a flurry of events! We had an exciting end of year with many activities including the Fun Run, Art Show, Science Fair, Field Day, Move Up Day, and many end-of-year celebrations.

Summer reading is incredibly important to keep the love of reading alive, so please be sure to encourage your child to participate in this year's 'Mission to R.E.A.D.' at each of our elementary schools. Students are asked to track their suggested 15 minutes a day of reading. They will get rewards and have a celebration when they return to school in August if they participate!

I want to thank all parents and families for another successful school year at Albert Schweitzer Elementary. Our students demonstrated a great deal of growth from the beginning of the year, and this individual growth should be recognized and celebrated. We want to wish our 4th grade graduates lots of luck in middle school. Please continue to make us proud and remember to take with you all that you learned through C.A.R.E.S. We will miss you!

Please take time to relax and rejuvenate this summer as a family. I look forward to hearing about your summer adventures when you return in August!

Take care,

Dr. Amy Orlando

Principal

Summer reading is important! The goal is for all rising 1st through 4th grade students to read for a MINIMUM of 15 minutes daily. Elementary Reading Specialists have curated grade-level book lists and have created a summer reading initiative entitled “Mission to R.E.A.D." All book lists and resources can be found on the 2025 Elementary Summer Reading Canvas Course. Your child should have accepted this course invitation during one of their final library classes of hte year.

Parents/guardians, please initial a star on the tracker for every 15 minutes of reading your child does over the summer. Students will hand in their completed minute tracker to next year’s teacher to receive a free book and summer reading celebration in September.

A copy of the summer reading tracker was sent home and is attached below as well as a FAQ page that should be able to answer any remaining questions you may have. If your child is headed to middle school, you can find their book list on the district website or by clicking this link.

Please help your child join us in our Mission to R.E.A.D.!!
