May Family Newsletter

Letter from Mrs. Murphy
Dear OES Families,
Here we are, having wrapped up the month of April and heading straight into May! What an incredible school year it has been, and we still have so much fun to be had as we enter this last full month of school. I first want to celebrate our third and fourth graders for their phenomenal performance at their music concerts Thursday night. The show was funny and energetic, and it was wonderful to see the passion in each student as they performed. A huge shout-out to Mrs. Miconi for her leadership and hard work in making that event such a success.
The month of April brought many exciting events and plenty of hard work with our M-STEP testing. Our students are continuing to try their hardest each and every day, and I am so proud of the focus they have shown. I am truly honored to serve and lead your children; they have worked so hard this month and throughout the entire year.
As you read through this month's OES Press Family newsletter, please pay close attention to our upcoming events, especially Field Day. We are currently searching for volunteers for this big event. Coach Black has organized an epic day for the kids, but we need your help to make sure all of these fun games can happen smoothly.
Finally, please stay tuned to your individual classroom communications. Many classes are planning field trips, and we have some very special events in the works for our 5th graders as we wrap up their final year at OES. Thank you for your continued support!
Kind regards,
Mrs. Murphy

Tate Traits
May and June Tate Traits: Loyal, Accountable, and Positive
As we move through May and into June, we are focusing on a powerful trio of Tate Traits to finish the school year strong.
While we continue to live into our April and May goals of being Loyal and Accountable, we are now introducing our June trait: Positive.
The Traits in Action
Loyal: Standing by our peers, showing commitment to our school community, and staying true to who we are and our core values.
Accountable: Taking ownership of our actions, our work, and our personal growth.
Positive: Bringing an uplifting attitude and a can-do spirit to every challenge we face.
Loyal means always standing by your friends and family,
supporting them, sticking up for them, and not leaving them
when things get hard. When you're loyal, people know they can count on you to be there for them.
Accountable means taking responsibility for what you do and
doing what you promise you’ll do. Being accountable shows you’re honest and responsible.
Positive means having a happy and hopeful attitude. It’s
like looking on the bright side of things, even when
something doesn’t go your way. When you're positive, you
focus on the good things and try to stay cheerful and kind.
Coin Wars
We are thrilled to announce that we already started our school-wide Coin War from Monday, April 27th, running through Friday, May 8th!
This exciting event is a fundraiser held in celebration of Autism Acceptance Month. All proceeds will go directly toward supporting our OES Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Suite. We are so excited to raise money for such a wonderful cause and to enhance the learning environment for our students.
How it Works:
Each class will have its own collection container.
Students are encouraged to bring in loose change and coins to add to their classroom's total.
The competition is on! The classroom that raises the most money by the end of the two weeks will win the grand prize.
The Prize: The winning class will earn an exclusive Pizza Party with Mr. Huller!
Start gathering that spare change! Whether it’s coins or dollars every bit counts toward helping our ASD suite and claiming that pizza party!
Thank you for your continued support of our school and our students. Let the Coin War begin!
Humble Design Fundraiser
We are excited to announce a community project here at OES! Because a generous donor provided funds to remodel a house, we are partnering with Humble Design Detroit to furnish it.
Humble Design is a nonprofit that transforms the lives of families and veterans transitioning out of homelessness. They provide custom design and furniture to turn empty houses into warm homes. This support is vital because ninety eight percent of families served by this organization remain housed long term.
The Fill the Bins Challenge from May 11th through May 15th, OES students will collect household items to fill multiple bins. We need your help to complete Kitchen Kits and Bathroom Kits.
Win a Prize The grade level that collects the most donations by the end of the week will win a prize. Let us work together to help our neighbors move forward.

3rd Grade Concert
🎬 Third Grade Takes the Stage in "Kid Flix"
Our third graders gave a wonderful performance Thursday night in their concert, Kid Flix. It was a treat to see the students bring so much personality to the stage as they celebrated some of their favorite cinema moments.
The costumes were a definite highlight, with students dressed as characters from The Polar Express, Zootopia, Monsters Inc., Spider-Man, The Peanuts Movie, and Moana. It was clear the kids had a great time representing these familiar stories and sharing what they’ve been working on in music class.
Congratulations to all of our third graders on a successful show and for sharing their enthusiasm with us!
4th Grade Concert
🏕️ A Night at Camp RUNAMOK!
On Thursday night, our fourth graders took us on an unforgettable trip to Camp RUNAMOK, and it’s safe to say the "wilderness" has never been more fun!
From start to finish, the students did a phenomenal job bringing their summer camp theme to life. While the singing was spectacular, the crowd was truly won over by the side-splitting jokes and the surprise appearance of a very talented dancing bear! It was a night filled with laughter, rhythm, and plenty of camp spirit.
A huge thank you to our hardworking performers for making it such a memorable show. We couldn't be prouder of our happy campers!
Bingo Night
Our recent Bingo Night on April 10th was a success for the DA and OES school communities! This PTO event brought together students and families for an evening filled with excitement. There were plenty of laughs and a healthy dose of competition as everyone waited to hear their numbers called.
We were thrilled to hand out so many fantastic Bingo prizes to our lucky winners. It was wonderful to see the joy on the faces of the children and the great spirit of our school community in action. Thank you to the PTO and all the volunteers who made this fun night possible.

March OES PRESS
OES Track/Walking Path
The Oxford Elementary School track/walking path will be closed to the public May 28–30 while the deteriorating rubberized surface is removed from the asphalt path underneath.
Once the work is complete, the asphalt walking path will reopen for community use. At this time, resurfacing the area as a rubberized track is not part of the district’s planned facilities priorities or budget.
We appreciate everyone’s patience during the temporary closure.
A Few Changes You May See This Spring
As part of our preparation for inspections this summer and in the spirit of good ol’ spring cleaning, families and students may start to notice some changes in classrooms. Staff may be adjusting furniture, soft seating, and decorations to align with current safety standards, including maintaining clear ceilings and pathways. You may see fewer hanging decorations, string lights, or some classroom furniture rearranged or removed. These updates support the safety of students, staff, and first responders and help ensure our buildings meet required standards.
