VLA Fall Term 1
Exam Reminders
Midterm/Final Exam Procedures
VLA students,
If your teacher is giving a midterm or final exam in person at the Lewisville Learning Center, you will need to follow these entry procedures:
- Enter through door A1 (front entrance).
- Bring your student ID and district iPad.
- After screening, you will be directed from the entryway to the VLA testing rooms.
- Follow the district's no-cell-phone policy the entire time you are in the building.
Not all courses have exams; some have projects instead. Also, some teachers may administer exams at LISD campuses as teacher schedules allow.
Important Dates
VLA Fall Term 1 Exam Dates: October 5–8
VLA Fall Term 2 Begins October 13
Attendance
VLA course attendance carries the same weight as in-person attendance. Per the LISD Student Handbook: to receive credit or a final grade in a class, a student must attend the class at least 90 percent of the days it is offered. Students who are not completing daily attendance may experience consequences including loss of credit, truancy proceedings, and/or removal from VLA courses.
- For periods 1, 3, and 4, students have between 12:00 am and 11:59 pm daily to complete their required Canvas check-in question; however, here is how our daily reporting process currently works:
- Initial Attendance (3:45 pm): Teachers mark students present or absent starting at 3:45 pm.
- Automated Phone Calls: If your child has not completed their check-in by the time the teacher marks attendance, you will receive an automated absence phone call from the district later that evening.
- The Next Morning: Our office runs reports to identify students who completed their check-in question after 3:45 pm and updates their status from "absent" to "present."
- 2nd Period Reminder: 2nd period virtual students must complete their Canvas check-in by 12:30 pm daily. There is no after-hours correction or reconciliation process for 2nd period due to Texas’ daily attendance snapshot.
