BALLOT QUESTION WILL AFFECT SAFETY AND LEARNING AT IRONDALE
With additional, dedicated revenue, Mounds View Public Schools can improve school safety, maintain cybersecurity efforts and advance student achievement. What would this mean for Irondale High School?
Our top priority:
Increasing security camera coverage in critical areas.
Our current challenges:
Security cameras and the visitor management system are about 12 years old.
The public address system is about 25 years old.
Door entry fobs are more than 10 years old and use less secure technology.
We utilize our security camera system daily. Updating this system is a top priority for our school.
Aging interactive whiteboards are failing. Updated displays would help provide more effective visuals for instruction and reduce the need for projectors and other technology needs. This would provide a more consistent learning experience across the school.
A dedicated funding source can address these issues without pulling funding away from maintaining current class sizes and academic programming. Learn more about the capital projects levy on the ballot this fall.
NAVIGATING FEELINGS
Navigating big feelings can be difficult and you are not alone! The Student Services department's most recent blog shares ways to navigate not only your own feelings, but your student's as well!
VOICE OF DEMOCRACY AUDIO ESSAY CONTEST
Do you enjoy writing? Want to read your essay and convince someone of your point? Would you like to get paid to write? Can you record your thoughts onto a flash drive? The Booker-Edmond VFW Post 724 is once again sponsoring the Voice of Democracy essay writing and speaking/recording contest for all students in grades 9-12.
The essay’s theme this year is “How Are You Showing Patriotism And Support For Our Country?" If you are interested, complete the entry form application. If you have any questions, stop by the Media Center. Be sure to follow the instructions given, making sure your essay and recording fit the requirements.
Awards locally range from $50-150; you could also qualify for district, state, and national prizes if selected. Mr. Blechert (aaron.blechert@moundsviewschools.org) can answer questions you may have -- he will pick up the entries (essay and recording) at the Media Center by Thursday, October 30, at the end of the day and he’ll coordinate it for the VFW Post reps to pick up. Share your thoughts, voice, and writings! Good Luck!
