SCC Secures 9th Win on the Season at San Diego Miramar
Santiago Canyon delivered one of its most complete performances of the season on December 12, rolling past San Diego Miramar 95–60 on the road to improve to 9–3. After building a steady first-half cushion, the Hawks erupted after the break, outscoring Miramar 59–38 to put the game out of reach.
SCC shared the scoring load and played with pace and purpose throughout the night, shooting 58.5 percent from the field and 44 percent from three. Jacob De Armas led the way with 22 points and 5 steals, setting the tone early with aggressive downhill attacks and active defense. Ryan Weber followed with 20 points and 9 rebounds, finishing efficiently around the rim and battling on the glass. Dominic Bolton had a strong two-way night, posting 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting and knocking down four triples, while also adding 4 assists. Salim Semaan contributed 10 points and 8 rebounds, helping control the interior and extend possessions.
SCC’s defensive pressure created turnovers and fueled transition opportunities, with the Hawks recording 9 steals and forcing Miramar into difficult shots. Chico Lopez anchored the glass off the bench with 12 rebounds to go with 3 assists, while Paris Lassiter added 6 points, 5 rebounds, and 2 assists in efficient minutes. Matt Mendias facilitated the offense with 4 assists, keeping the ball moving and the pace steady. With balanced scoring, defensive intensity, and consistent execution on the road, Santiago Canyon continues to build momentum as the season progresses. The Hawks now turn their attention to the next stretch of non-conference play, as they host Long Beach City College on Wednesday and play on the road at LA Harbor College on Friday.
Hawks Fall to Copper Mountain in a Defensive Battle
Santiago Canyon dropped a tightly contested game to Copper Mountain, 68–64, on December 9, moving to 8–3 on the season. Despite strong individual efforts and stretches of solid defensive play, the Hawks couldn’t quite generate enough offense down the stretch to flip the outcome. Jacob De Armas led all scorers with 27 points, shooting an efficient 10-of-14 from the field while adding 7 rebounds, 4 steals, and 3 assists. He consistently attacked the rim and carried the offensive load throughout the night, keeping SCC within striking distance until the final possessions.
The Hawks competed defensively and limited Copper Mountain’s scoring opportunities, but struggled to find rhythm offensively, finishing at 35.2 percent from the field. Ryan Weber contributed 11 points and 7 rebounds, battling inside and converting at the line, while Salim Semaan added 8 points and helped anchor the paint. SCC leaned on effort plays to stay close, getting 10 offensive rebounds and earning 28 trips to the free-throw line, where they converted 21. Paris Lassiter impacted the game beyond the box score with 8 rebounds, active defense, while the bench provided steady minutes in a physical matchup. Copper Mountain made enough plays late to protect its lead, and despite multiple chances, the Hawks were unable to fully close the gap in the final minutes. While the result stings, the performance highlighted the team’s competitiveness and willingness to fight through adversity.
Santiago Canyon will regroup quickly, take the lessons from this one, and turn its focus to the next game at San Diego Miramar on Friday Night.
