Scottsville's Tuesday Tiger Times
February 24, 2026
Join us Tonight!
Community Leaders!
This Black History Month, we’ve had the incredible privilege of looking learning from the history of Scottsville and Esmont. We are so fortunate that some of that history lives right here within our school family.
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to two very special guests who helped our students connect the past to the present:
- Marnita Shepherd, who took us on a journey through the history of Mr. Simpson and Simpson Park. Understanding the origins of our local landmarks helps us appreciate the labor, vision, and legacy of the Black leaders who shaped the spaces we enjoy today.
Peggy Scott, who shared the powerful story of Claudette Colvin. Long before the world knew the name Rosa Parks, Colvin was a teenager who took a brave stand for civil rights. Having this story shared by someone with such close community ties made her courage feel all the more real for our students.
When our community members share their stories, they aren't just teaching facts—they are passing down a legacy of strength and pride to the next generation in a heart-felt and personal way!
Thoughtful Tigers
Each week students are noticed for being kind and helpful...and some are chosen to be highlighted! These are the students chosen since our newsletter on 2/10.
Tips for Staying Healthy!
As the weather warms and everyone is excited to be outside again, we wanted to share some tips for staying healthy.
- Wash your hands for at least 30 seconds with soap and water.
- Cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough.
- Drink lots of water.
- Get a full nights rest.
- If your student is feeling ill, please remind them to see the school nurse.
News from PTO!
Every parent, guardian, and staff member at Scottsville Elementary is automatically part of the PTO, no sign-ups, dues, or meeting attendance required. The PTO only works when our school community works together, and right now we truly need more helping hands. Even volunteering once or helping in a small way makes a big difference for our students and staff.
Here are a few upcoming opportunities where you can jump in and help support our school:
🌱Garden Project Update
Our Virtual Garden Q&A is scheduled for February 24 on Google Meet. Here is the link for the interest meeting: 7PM: https://meet.google.com/wug-rigu-iaz. Garden build dates are confirmed for March 21–22, and committee formation is underway as we explore community partnerships to support food distribution opportunities.

The PTO would love to help make another Skate Night happen since the kids had so much fun last time! We’re looking for a parent or guardian to take the lead on planning and organizing the evening (potential date Friday April 24th), including coordinating with Yancey, arranging snacks or dinner options, and managing volunteers for set-up and clean-up. If you’re willing to step in, the PTO is happy to sponsor the event.
