From the Principal
Happy Wednesday Cherrydale Families!
We are so grateful for the care and partnership of our families during afternoon dismissal. We want to share an important reminder to help keep everyone safe and our traffic flowing smoothly.
The Town of Steilacoom Police Department has reached out with concerns about Military Road being blocked prior to and during dismissal. When vehicles line up too early, it can create safety hazards and limit access for emergency vehicles and neighborhood traffic.
This is a friendly reminder to our families that we begin dismissal procedures at 3:30 p.m. Arriving significantly earlier does not mean students will be dismissed sooner. Our staff follow a structured dismissal process to ensure all students exit safely and efficiently.
To support safety for everyone, we kindly ask families to:
- Avoid lining up on Military Drive well before 3:30 p.m.
- Plan to arrive closer to dismissal time.
- Follow all posted traffic guidelines and staff directions.
Your cooperation helps us maintain a safe environment for our students, staff, and community. Thank you for working together with us to keep dismissal smooth and safe for all!
Warm Regards,
Christine Firth, Principal

West Pierce Fire & Rescue Visit Cherrydale
We were thrilled to welcome West Pierce Fire & Rescue to Cherrydale for a special visit focused on teaching our students about fire safety and injury prevention!
Our students learned important, life-saving tips to help keep themselves and their families safe. Students were engaged and asked thoughtful questions.
Firefighters taught students about:
- Seatbelt and booster seat safety
- “Stop, Drop, and Roll”
- Fire prevention and what to do in an emergency
We are so grateful to West Pierce Fire & Rescue for taking the time to educate and inspire our students. Be sure to ask your child what they learned and talk together about how your family can practice fire safety at home.

Spring Picture Day March 10th
This is a reminder that Class Picture Day is coming up on March 10th with Class Act Portraits.
Picture Day is a time-honored tradition for our school. Every student will be photographed in a group with their classmates.
If you would also like an individual Spring picture, please return the paper flyer that was sent home with your student or scan the QR code to respond online. There is no purchase required – you can view your student’s individual pictures first and then decide if you like them!
Remember to Dress Your Best and Bring Your Smile!
Our Lost and Found is filling up with coats, sweatshirts, water bottles, and other personal items. We encourage families to take a few minutes to check for any missing belongings.
We strongly recommend labeling your child’s jacket with their name to help ensure it is returned to them if misplaced.
ALL remaining items will be donated April 3rd. Thank you for helping us keep our school organized and clutter-free!
Help Keep Plastic Film out of Landfills
From now through May 1, students can drop off plastic film for recycling in the designated box located in the front foyer.
All the plastic film we collect during the drive will be turned into Trex decking!
Plastic film must be clean and dry.
If you and your child are interested in learning more, this info sheet explains what plastic film is and why it’s hard to recycle, and this video shows a ton of examples.
Here are some examples of plastic film products we can recycle:
Health & Attendance
Does your child have an extra change of clothes at school?
As we head into this rainy stretch of weather, please remember to pack an extra change of clothes in your child’s backpack. Wet playgrounds and little accidents can happen, and having spare clothes on hand helps your child stay comfortable and ready to learn. Thanks!
All planned absences should be reported to the office. Please submit the Planned Absence Request form at least one week prior to the first day of the absence. This advance notice allows teachers adequate time to prepare assignments and materials so your student can stay on track while away.
