Permenter Longhorn Check In
October 30 - November 3, 2023
Notes from the Principal:
- Thank you to everyone for their participation in Red Ribbon Week. Our counselors Ms. Miller and Ms. Terry worked diligently to ensure Permenter was fully engaged in the awareness of the week.
- To address the needs of our scholars that ultimately impact their feelings of security and safety, we are hosting 2 different opportunities in November. We will have an in-person assembly for girls and boys with a panel of speakers to address decision making and solving conflict with others. This will be during the school day on November 6th. That same evening on November 6th, we are hosting a digital parent university to discuss cyberbullying.
- This is the last week of the current grading cycle. Our 2nd grading cycle of the year ends this Friday, November 3rd. Please encourage your scholar to make the most of this last week and finish strong academically, socially with their interaction with their peers and with their attendance.
- Please be sure to touch base with your scholar's teachers to keep current on their academic progress as well as important deadlines and other academic activities.
- Our scholars will take their 2nd district assessment this week: October 30th - November 2nd. These are important tools that require a charged chromebook. This provides valuable information to track our scholar's progress and mastery with important concepts taught in their core classes. Please help us by ensuring they are present and take this opportunity seriously.
All Permenter scholars are expected to be in CHISD Dress Code every day this week. Halloween costumes, masks or any other item out of the standard code of dress are not allowed and will be addressed according to the CHISD Code of Conduct and Dress Code Guidelines.
Additionally, this is a district testing week and we need all scholars focused on doing their very best. We do not need any distractions from our primary purpose: effective teaching and learning.
- Please encourage your scholar to let a school counselor or administrator know if they are having conflict with others. Some of our scholars are making unhealthy choices to resolve problems and it is resulting in unsafe practices. We want our school to have a productive teaching and learning environment. Please partner with us to help make this happen.
- We will be hosting a digital parent workshop November 6th from 6:00 - 7:00 PM. The topics will be cyberbullying and sharing tips to not only keep your scholar safe, but also guard against conflict with others which presents safety concerns as well as distractions from teaching and learning in school.
- Please make note that all middle school scholars must wear their ID badges to all CHISD athletic functions and be accompanied by their parents/guardians. This does not include one adult accompanying different scholars that they do not serve as their parent/guardian.
- If your scholar started the school year with an unnatural hair color (blue, pink, bright red, orange, etc.) their grace period expired October 5th. All hair color must now be within CHISD dress code or consequences will be applied. We have started this process after weeks of grace and there still seems to be much confusion. Please be sure to read the dress code carefully so we are all on one accord.
- There has been a revision to our standard of dress for scholars each week. Please make note of the change regarding Fridays. Scholars can now wear college/university tops on Fridays with jeans as another option beyond CHISD spirit attire.
- CHISD has added a Voter-Approved Tax Rate Election (VATRE) to the November 7th Ballot. Please click here to learn amore information about the proposed VATRE and important voter registration guidelines and deadlines.
- Families are financially responsible for lost or damaged Chromebooks. Insurance is available and worth the investment. Click here to learn more information and sign up for insurance for your scholar's Chromebook.
- It is imperative that all scholars bring their charged Chromebooks with them daily. We need all scholars present, on time, focused and committed to their personal scholastic achievement.
Faithfully,
Dr. Lemons
