Hi WHS Families,

Students and staff are continuing to build on the positivity, excitement, and rigor of this year. Last Friday, staff engaged in professional development that put them in the role of their students by attending workshops and classes taught by their colleagues. These classes helped teachers learn skills that they can incorporate in their daily practice and also helped them understand the multi-faceted identity of being a student. Classes included lessons on educational technology, mindfulness, movement during learning, high element obstacle courses, and many more. Teachers had an enriching, challenging, and fun day!

expedition club

The Watertown High School Expedition club had a successful first outing at the Beaver Brook Reservation in Waltham. Undaunted by 6:45AM start time, fourteen students went for a two mile romp in the woods before making it back to WHS for their first period classes. To keep up to date with events like these, please check the student morning announcements.

are you a stem/steam professional?

WHS and WMS are seeking participants who work in STEM fields/industries to join our panels during MA STEM Week 2021. We wish to expose students to the variety of STEM/STEAM careers out there. We want them to connect their learning to authentic experiences and start dreaming of their future selves. We hope to once again gather a diverse group (i.e. culturally, ethnically, gender, gender expression, age, et. al.) who work in the Boston area, many in our own community of Watertown. Students will be interested to hear what you studied in high school and beyond and how this influenced your professional pathways.

We seek panelists as follows:

WMS Friday, October 22, 2021 8:45 AM – 10:45 AM (two 45-minute panels)

WHS Wednesday, October 20, 2021 11:30 AM – 1 PM (one panel during lunch block)

RSVP to CTE Coordinator Laura Alderson Rotondo at laura.aldersonrotondo@watertown.k12.ma.us or by phone (617) 926-7760 X.36271

MCAS Results

Individual MCAS results are being mailed to families as we speak. In the mail you will receive your student's results as well as a letter from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education detailing some nuances of this year's tests and scores. If you have questions about your student's scores, please reach out to your student's guidance counselor who can help your student find the support they need.

There will be a fuller presentation around district-wide MCAS results delivered by Assistant Superintendent Dr. McGuinness, on November 8, 2021 at 7:00pm, during the school committee meeting. Building principals and curriculum coordinators will be in attendance during this presentation to answer any questions you may have.
