Report Cards Sent Electronically Through PowerSchool 10/30!
Hamilton-Holmes releases reports cards electronically through Power School - we do not send or mail home paper copies.
We have been made aware of a technical issue on our electronic report card vendor's end that may prevent some families from receiving their child's report card by email. Families with an active PowerSchool Parent Portal account can continue to access their child's grades at any time.
We will be recognizing our quarter one honor roll students soon - be on the look out for names and recognitions!
Parent Conference Sign-Up
Hello Families!
Mark your calendars! Parent-Teacher Conferences are coming up on November 4th, from 3:45 PM to 6:00 PM.
We are offering 15-minute conference slots. In middle school, our conferences are conducted as a team—giving you the opportunity to meet with all of your child’s teachers at once for a well-rounded update on their progress and success.
To reserve a time, please contact your student's teacher or give Mrs. Trainer a call in the front office at 804-769-3434.
Thank you for your continued support, and we hope to see you there!
Health and PE Programs: 6th Grade Life Skills and 7th Grade Catch My Breath
We are excited to share that our middle school students will be participating in two important health units starting next month:
6th Grade: Starting the Life Skills program on Tuesday, November 10.
7th Grade: Beginning the Catch My Breath vaping prevention program on Thursday, November 12.
Both units will conclude before winter break on Friday, December 18.
As part of these programs, students will complete a brief, anonymous survey to help us measure the effectiveness of the curriculum. If you do not wish for your child to participate in the anonymous survey, please sign and return the opt-out letter that was sent home with your student. Please note that opting out applies only to the survey—all students will still participate in these valuable health lessons.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your student's HPE teacher through ROOMS.
Attached below is parent information as well as the opt-out forms for your convenience.
Pep Rally: 1st 9 Weeks Video
Celebrating our JV athletes and a successful 1st nine weeks of academics and positive behavior.
We hosted a high-energy pep rally to celebrate our school spirit and recognize our 8th-grade student-athletes participating in KWHS JV Fall sports—including Golf, Volleyball, Football, Marching Band & Drill, Cheer, Cross Country, and Field Hockey.
Our grade levels then faced off in several spirited fall-themed competitions:
Mummy Wrap (use toilet paper to wrap a student in toilet paper the best you can!) Winner: 7th Grade- Eyeball Relay Race (walk the length of the gym balancing a ping-pong ball with an eyeball painted on it and pass it off to a teammate) Winner: 7th Grade
- Pumpkin Dribble (dribble a ball slalom-style through a field of pumpkins the length of a gym) Winner: 8th Grade
- Human Chain (students get into a line holding hands all the way down - they must pass the hoola-hoop to the end without breaking the chain) Winner: 7th Grade
- Pumpkin Bowling (students rolled a small pumpkin into plastic pins knocking as many down as possible) Winner: 6th Grade
Spirit Stick Champions: Congratulations to our 7th-grade class for taking home the Spirit Stick! Their victory earned them the chance to face our staff in the tradition-favorite Student vs. Teacher Basketball Shoot-out. It was a close matchup, but the teachers managed to pull out the win this time!
Please watch this video to see a summary of all the amazing fun we had!
Virtual Reality Career Exploration
Empowering the Next Generation of Professionals at HHMS 🎓🥽
Last week, students at HHMS had the unique opportunity to participate in interactive Career Exploration using Virtual Reality (VR) headsets.
Through a partnership with the Virginia Career Works Bay Consortium Region, our students engaged in immersive, hands-on simulations for high-growth, in-demand industries. They gained invaluable insight into careers such as:
Automotive Service Technician
First Responder
Welder
Electrician
Site Safety Specialist
Surgery Assistant
By connecting classroom learning with real-world industry pathways, our students are gaining the confidence and knowledge needed to plan their future careers.
Special thanks to Virginia Career Works for bringing this technology and opportunity to our school! 💡🚀
Hands-On Math Activities
Students put their problem-solving skills to the test today! Working in collaborative groups, they used the distributive property to match up and piece together their candy corn math puzzles.
Seeing equations click into place with a seasonal twist made for a fantastic hands-on learning session. Great teamwork and creative thinking, everyone! 👏📐✨
Our students also explored perfect squares this week using Cheez-Its to "model" their ideas.
- Why are some numbers "square" and others are not?
- Is 2*2 perfect? What about 1.5*1.5? 0?
- How is the area related to the factors? Square roots?

Counseling Updates
To wrap up Bullying Prevention Month, our school counseling team visited all Health and Physical Education (HPE) classes for engaging workshops on Cyberbullying and Digital Citizenship.

Identifying Cyberbullying: Recognizing the subtle differences between casual online interactions and harmful cyberbullying.
Smart Responses: Practicing safe, effective strategies for targets and bystanders when responding to negative behavior online.
Positive Resolutions: Learning how to de-escalate situations, utilize reporting tools, and foster a safer, more supportive online community.
SCA: 6th Grade Applications Due 11/6

Thank You! We Received Three Microwaves :-)
Huge thanks to our incredibly generous donors for providing three new microwaves for our cafeteria!
With only 25 minutes for lunch, every second counts. Having extra microwaves means shorter lines, faster warmups, and more time for our students and staff to sit down, recharge, and enjoy their meals together.
Your support directly fuels our days so we can focus on what we do best: teaching and learning! 📚💙
