Principal's Update

The Arctic air gave us a chilly week, but it was still a great one here at Braintree! It's National School Bus Safety Week, so OSSD Transportation Manager Danny Bellavance joined us Monday morning, with a few friends, to facilitate bus evacuation drills. Just in time for the first prek field trip in quite a while. As I write, our primary students are preparing for their field trip to Greybar Farm for pumpkin picking followed by a visit to Silloway's for delicious maple creemees. We are fortunate to have so many exciting field trips available for our students, but the cost of attending adds up. Our family group (PiE - Partners in Education) has determined that fundraising for field trips will be a goal for the year. Read below to hear about exciting opportunities to support our school!

PiE

As I mentioned, we had our first family meeting of the year on Monday afternoon. Thank you to the folks who were able to join! Meeting notes are available. We discussed Braintree's door policy, outcomes from a family survey, and work for the year.

Our first event is a pie fundraiser - we will make your Thanksgiving pies! Funds raised will be used for field trips and enrichment for students. Please join us for a planning meeting on Monday, November 7 at 2:15pm in our library.

From Nurse Brooke

As we get ready for winter, we can’t forget to prepare our immune systems! This year Gifford Pediatrics and the OSSD are teaming up to increase access to the annual flu vaccine. Braintree’s Flu Clinic for students is taking place on Wednesday, October 26. Hardcopies of handouts for signup were sent home. Please contact Brooke Naylor, BSN, RN at bnaylor@orangesouthwest.org with any questions.

Farm to School Update

Another tasting with Farmer Anne took place this week. The students made kale chips and roasted potatoes, utilizing the last of the produce from the garden beds, and then listened to a story while they snacked. As we continue crafting and preparing foods for the farmstand, we are on the lookout for donations of clean glass jars. If you have any jelly jars, leftover pint jars, etc. we would love to put them to good use!
